The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4½ stars and stated “There are no real surprises, but no disappointments either on what would be Harold Vick’s only chance to lead a Blue Note date. At 27 he was already a fine player”.

This record was actually the first record I played in 2018. I have so much respect and admiration for the creative genius that is Spike Lee. I grew up watching his films (my mother is a huge fan). As an adult, I discovered that his pops was an artist who released music on a prestigious, independent black jazz record label called Strata East. Spike also had his father record the scores for a lot of his films.
