I watched this for the first time a while ago and rewatched it today (with @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, as you may have suspected) because we're kinda just going through this guy's filmography at this point I guess. Yoshiura Yasuhiro is a....distinct? Director? Guy really loves his two-worlds symbolism and his singing during the emotional climax. I liked this well enough on a rewatch but it does feel way more, like, high school, both literally and figuratively, than something like Pale Cocoon or even Aquatic Language. Like, yeah man, boy meets girl. Being in love is about communicating with each other. For sure. Yoshiura has just had an odd trajectory as a creative, I suppose.
