People often struggle to conceptualize why sharks are important & why they are even worthy of existence. The primary reason why sharks and other apex predators are so important is due to the fact that they balance & protect marine ecosystems via complex predator-prey relationships. This checks and balances system in turn keeps the Oceans happy & healthy, and considering more than 70% of the oxygen humans breathe comes from the Oceans, it’s in our best human-interests to also help keep our sharks & our oceans happy & healthy. I photographed this beautiful Great White Shark last year at Guadalupe Island, México, a biosphere reserve where sharks are protected & respected!
