In case you've been wondering why your order, report, or reply is taking so long, let me give ya a status update. I've been in the process of moving basically half my stuff to Haphazard Station in Louisiana, which will be my home base for part of the year as I work on the Bayou Hoodoo Herbal. I've been trying to get this set up for a good while now, but my car broke down on my last trip in November and screwed up everything, leaving me with inventory, raw materials, paperwork, and possessions spread out across three states. The car was toast. Things have been pretty chaotic. I finally made it back to Haphazard, but since I'm basically hitchhiking to get from one place to the other these days, I rushed out the door to catch a ride with a pretty flawed packing list and ended up in rural Louisiana without some pretty important things, among them some of the more important herbs and roots I have to have to do my work and fill your orders. (Yep, this genius rootworker walked out the door without John the Conqueror root - you know, only one of the *most important roots in Southern hoodoo* 🙄 ) I finally have the majority of that stuff back on my shelves, shipped to me from Seraphin Station or ordered or located locally, so order processing will be going more quickly now. Some of the most effective rootwork you can work is deceptively simple (and generally doesn't produce drool-worthy photos for your IG posts that anybody is gonna aim a sexy hashtag at). But some of y'all keep asking for spells and getting upset when I tell you to set a light or take a bath. Y'all wanting some shit to chant and something witchy-looking i guess. Thing is, most of this can really be boiled down to a couple of simple principles that apply in a majority of situations: Wash your house. Wash your ass. Pray. The most powerful hoodoo back in the day was performed by folks who spent more time scrubbing their floors than they did curating a crystal collection or worrying about whether the moon was void of course. Chicken foot aesthetics: not every chicken foot charm - not even every Louisiana-specific chicken foot charm - matches the vibe that is probably most familiar to folks, the style that I am most often asked to make by clients and customers. Those tend to be focused on protection and reversing, come in bright or strong colors, and be festooned with shiny bits, feathers, and beads. But here's an example from Southeastern Louisiana focused more on spiritual cleansing, you could say, or you could even call it a sort of tool for the spiritual equivalent of climate control and air purification.
