Let it be noted that it is good to be a kid right when most of a continent switches to a single currency.
I have a new monetary humor piece up at The Billfold,Ā āThe 58 Most Worthless Coins in My Piggy Bank, Unrankedā, about my collection of low-value, out-of-circulation coins - including some Bolivars so devalued theyād be worth billionths of a dollar, some Spanish and South African coins lauding people we now (correctly) find reprehensible, a shrinking Italian coin (what happened?) and a partial penny which was never worth more than 1/480th of a pound sterling.
The bonus photo above does not appear in the essay; itās a British currency design from the 80s, and I like how unhappy the hedgehog looks about the idea of anybody jostling his 5p piece.
Locks of Love Ha'Penny Bridge in Dublin. Reminds of Paris ! #bridge #hapenny #ireland #dublin #kellypalooza #exist2travel #travel2exist (at Ha'penny Bridge)
For my First post, Iām Kicking off with this pic, which I took a few weeks ago of Dublinās, FAMOUS āHa'Penny Bridgeā.
Built in 1816, The Liffey Bridge (Itās official name),Ā has been known as The HaāPenny for years. Simply because citizens of Dublin had to pay a toll of a Ha'Penny each to pass over The River Liffey, via the this bridge.
