These are the finished products from my latest course on the subject of surface and texture. The brief was to create one product and then duplicate it as close as possible with another technique. 

We also had to take inspiration from a famous person so I chose female Impressionist painters Marie Bracquemond, Mary Cassatt, Eva Gonzalès and Berthe Morisot (I know that’s four and Gonzalès didn’t really indentify as an impressionist but still).

I decided to do a tapestry (first time on an actual loom!) and recreate it with knitting, despite the fact that I’m not that into colourwork knitting. I did struggle, but mostly from boredom. 

Something that didn’t bore me though was weaving a tapestry, which might just have been the best technique I’ve ever worked with so it was great to explore it more in-depth. 

I’m not completely pleased with the composition (the white form in the middle looks a little bit too much like a mushroom) so I might try to fix that with some embroidery later.

I’ve posted some w.i.p. pics earlier but I’ll do a more in-depth post, discussing my inspiration, process and result, once I got the time. I got to present this tomorrow and then I got to write about it as well. But let me know if you want to know anything specific and I’ll try to answer.

Yesterday I made these adorable mushrooms out of wooden buttons, wool, lace and pipe cleaner, as well as some cute embellishments!
