Personality: Moritsugu is an aloof and reserved young man. He has a mysterious aura that gives off uncertainty and tranquility. Underneath his cool exterior, he is guilt-ridden and depressed due to being a spy in the Demon Slayer Corps and how it is contradictory to the honor code that Kokushibo told him about. He also hated how many humans with Hankiyoutaichi blood are captured and have the Han-nin Hanki to appease Muzan. After agreeing to be a double agent, he has become more friendly and open to others. He is more willing to teach other Demon Slayers to improve their techniques and how to become stronger against demons. He is grateful for Kagaya for giving him a renew sense of purpose. Moritsugu is more emotionally attached to his mother as she is his saving grace during years of harsh training. He believes that his father hates him for his resemblance to his uncle. 

History: Moritsugu is the first-born son of Kokushibo and Murasaki and the eldest of their quintuplets. Since he was born, he, along with Sagasu, was trained to use Moon Breathing and to serve Muzan, whom he only knew as “The One”. During their childhood, their father kept him and his brother separate and was not allowed to interact to increase competition. However, their mother and younger siblings would help them behind Kokushibo’s back, primarily during the daytime. The training they received was brutal and militaristic with them nearly dying on several occasions. This greatly upsets Murasaki as she wants Kokushibo to be a father, not a dictator. 

It is stated that they personally met Muzan but were forced to keep their heads down so the Demon King would not have to look at his face. Because he sounds too much like Yorichii, Muzan forbade him from speaking in his presence and Kokushibo said his voice repulsed him. They, along with their siblings, also have to give Muzan their blood every two months to see if it allows him to walk in the sun. However, it never worked. 

When they reached twelve, Moritsugu and Sagasu had completed their primary training and were assigned to their roles. As Sagasu is chosen to work directly under Muzan, Moritsugu is the one who is sent to the Demon Slayer Corps, about a year before Tanjiro. Ever since then, he remains conflicted and has been preventing himself from getting too high in the ranks, which frustrates Muzan. He also shared small details due to his low rank. His plan was when he is about to be promoted to be a Hashira, he will commit seppuku and have his head cut off as a sign of atonement for him being a double agent and his father being a demon and he wants to do it in the presence of Kagaya. Because of his rare breathing style and handsome appearance, he became very popular among the Demon Slayers as many of them respect him due to his cool-mindedness and rare and unusual breathing style. His Kasugai Crow, Haruna (陽月) talks about hos great he is. Even the Caterpillars have a crush on him. 

The Kamaboko Squad respects him as well. They first met in the Butterfly Mansion where Moritsugu was checking his injuries. Inosuke tried to challenge him to a fight but he ignored him. He was a source of jealousy by Zenitsu when Nezuko once shyly waved at him. Many are wondering how he did not become a Hashira sooner. In fact, if he did not hold back, he would be a Hashira within two months, maybe less. He would only take solo missions and would not take any partners, adding to his mysterious ego. 

Some time after, he was able to secretly meet Sagasu during at high noon. They managed to tell each other what the other has been up to. Moritsugu told his brother his plan. Sagasu asked if it would help others like them. Moritsugu did not respond before saying his goodbyes.

One day, when Kagaya calls him in to become a potential Hashira, the younger man decided it’s time to admit about himself. 

Moritsugu said what exactly he is and why he joined the Demon Slayer Corps. His objective is to aid Muzan and take down the Demon Slayer Corps from the inside out. He felt a lot of guilt for helping Muzan and contributing to the death of thousands. He believes that he is not worthy of being a Demon Slayer, let alone a Hashira. Then he brings out a Nichirin tanto blade and opens up his uniform to cut open his stomach.

He does not know exactly if a nichirin blade can really hurt him but he's fine to die a painful death. He stated that his death should be enough to atone for not only his sins but also his family's. However, Kagaya told him not to do that and told Moritsugu that he does not have to die. Instead, saying that he can help the Demon Slayer Corp against Muzan. It makes sense since Moritsugu has a lot of knowledge of Hanki and Muzan's plans with them, especially since Fuyumi stated that her blood is connected to it. Moritsugu agreed as he knows what Fuyumi's blood is since his mother has it as well.

In the next Hashira meeting, Kagaya makes the news of who and what Moritsugu really is and how he can be instrumental to defeat Muzan. It involves the blood of the Han-nin Hanki. 

The Hashira are skeptical but were slightly assured when Moritrugu reveals what available information he has about the Hanki, including its very name. One thing that he suggests is to put the Hankiyoutaichi and Han-nin Hanki under protection, which is a huge request. Kagaya sees it as necessary to prevent Muzan from achieving his goals. Moritsugu stated that the Upper Moons do have Han-nin Hanki, a few around his age but doubts that they are aware of what they are. Also, he also wants to apologize to Fuyumi directly for not being able to help her. 

He is one of the Demon Slayers who helped create the sanctuary in order to protect Hankiyoutaichi and their Han-nin Hanki children from demons. 

Moritsugu also teaches several of the Moon Breathing Techniques. He also trains Inosuke on his Frost Breathing Technique. 

Through weeks of staying in the sanctuary, he was summoned by Kagaya who noticed immense abilities in swordsmanship. Moritsugu had a duel with one of the Hashiras, Muichiro. The end result is a tie. Afterward, they become friends with immense respect for each other.

Blood Hanki Art: Eclipsed Moon Crescents

Moritsugu’s Blood Hanki Art allows him to create red lunar crescents from his blood and use it for Moon Breathing. He only uses it when he is alone, however, after his meeting with Kagaya, he decided to use it more frequently to demonstrate Blood Hanki Art and help his allies.

Equipment: Nichirin Katana, Nichirin Tanto

Moritsugu wields a nichirin katana that belong to Kokushibo when he was a Demon Slayer. Its blade is red-violet. The handguard is two red crescent moons side by side.

He also has a Nichirin Tanto that he planned to use to commit seppuku. It is then repurpose for close up defense.
