This year has been an interesting one because it marks the first time I've moved from simply consuming content from a fandom to attempting to actively participate and contribute myself. It's also a year of note for me, as KCD and the characters therein have inspired me to get back into writing - a hobby that I'd avoided for a long time for a variety of reasons.
It's been a joy to say the least, and I look forward to continuing in the new year.
I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the cadre of wonderful artists, writers, and general enjoyers of Hansry who have inspired, and continue to fuel, my enjoyment of this fandom. I wish you all the best in 2026!
Beneath the break is a rundown of my fics for this year, in order of posting, with some of my post-mortem thoughts on them. Consider it sort of a 2025 in Review. An A03 Wrapped. A list of that naughty stuff that might be sitting open in a tab to be read in the near future, and haven't quite gotten around to yet.
Please note, all these works are labeled as Explicit, so if you decide to have a gander at them on AO3, please mind the tags :)
Piety and Vice (1,890 words)
Gregorious (Henry/Pious)
My first work posted to AO3, but the second fic I worked on. This was written in a manic state one evening after some discussions took place on the Hansry Kingdom Discord, where art involving Brother Antonius was shared and soon became this snowballing little fandom within a fandom. From a technical standpoint, there's a lot wrong with this work, but it still holds a special little place in my heart.
His Place at the Lord's Table (13,850 words)
Hansry (Hans/Henry)
The first true work of fanfiction that I started writing with the intent to share, and probably my most known work. It's my love letter to Hansry, and where I personally think I peaked. It took roughly two months to fully write, edit, and gather up the courage to post, but I'm happy I did. When I get back to writing canon-era KCD, it'll most likely be with these versions of the lads in mind - idiots in love and in it together for the long haul.
The Feeling of You (1,468 words)
Hansry (Hans/Henry) - Modern AU
One-sided for Hans with implied Gregorious in the background
Fanfiction for a fanfic - what a concept, am I right?
The original work that inspired this one was written by a fellow member of the HK Discord, and I was kind of possessed with the idea of it, lol. I wrote this in a sort of post-procedure anesthesia recovery fugue state, and I'm happy with the result despite that. This was also the first time I attempted writing from Hans' POV, which made me more comfortable with the character, and... kind of opened a can of worms regarding my love for the man, lol
Back Alley Bullshit (5,528 words)
Hangorious (Hans/Henry/Pious) - Modern AU
My first and perhaps last time writing an m/m/m threesome (well, maybe I'm lying about that last part - never say never!).
The pronouns are confusing, you say? Where are their hands, you say? What has Henry even been doing for the last four paragraphs? I agree! This work was a trial in patience and careful editing, and while I loved the idea, and I loved the outline, and I loved the aftermath of it all, there was a moment while trying to finish writing it that I was legit in tears cause I hated everything and wanted to just curl up in a corner and have myself an ugly cry.
That said, this work was inspired by the collective thoughts of the Pious cult in the HK Discord, where two artists started drawing the same scene, and the rest of us were throwing in commentary like it was MST3K. Some of that commentary made it into my final work. You can see Dill's final piece here!
Where Poppies Seldom Grow (65,771 words and counting)
Hansry (Hans/Henry) - Beauty and the Beast inspired AU
Oh, where to begin. Have you ever had a silly conversation that starts to snowball into something much larger than you originally thought it would be? What began as an offhand comment in an entirely different fanfic's discussion spiraled into an idea that took possession of my mind, and has since continued to snowball for the past six months. I love this work so so much, and if I can summarize my experience with it into one word, it would be "Overwhelming." And not in any negative sense, mind you.
The amount of space it occupies in my is overwhelming. The scope of what I've written and what I have planned is overwhelming. The amount of engagement I've received with it is overwhelming. The absolute love that I've received from readers is overwhelming. Maybe I'm just easily overwhelmed? I really should really just calm the fuck down, lol
It's been a little bit of a stretch for my writing abilities, as I try to give each POV character a sort of... voice. The prose from Hans' POV is a little melodramatic, and that man is very much prone to getting stuck in his thoughts, while Henry's is a little more simplified and grounded in the present - something he actively does, because to reflect on the past is something he wants to avoid. The side characters, too, I try to give them distinct voices. Brabant, I think, is my least favorite to write, but the result is always satisfying, lol
I do feel a little bad for the slowing pace of the updates, but that's more to do with life than anything else, and I know it can't be helped sometimes. December has been especially brutal, from recovering from back-to-back procedures, and then the holidays... But I'm ready to get back to plugging away at this in the new year, and already have a bit of a sequel in mind (much smaller in scope, lol)
This Thing We Keep (6,797 words)
Hansry (Hans/Henry) - Modern AU
I recently posted the background to this, but this was my entry for the HK Discord gift exchange. From a technical standpoint, I'm happy I learned how workskins function for AO3. It opens up fun new ways to play with formatting in future works.
Storywise, I have... an entire AU planned around this version of these two, starting from when they meet to when they get together for the long haul, and it's one of those that I really want to write, like, now, RIGHT NOW, but there are so many other things I have in the works, that I really need to put it in line with the others. I'm in the... rough outline stage of it, though, lol.
And what's to come for the new year?
Regarding writing, I've babbled at length about this with some people, but I have a few outlines that I'm working on. I have a Cyberpunk 2077 AU that I'm slowly building, as well as an Omegaverse AU that is nearing its final outline stages (me, attempting to not do a rewrite of KCD1, failing and outlining a rewrite of KCD1 - it needs some pruning to prevent the dreaded scope creep.)
I also have a couple of one-shots planned (missing scenes fics and some artwork-inspired stuff), and I definitely want to contribute a few works to the upcoming Monastery Fanweek taking place in February.
