Detached Chain Stitch Tutorial
The Detached Chain Stitch, also known as the Lazy Daisy Stitch, is a fun and simple embroidery stitch that creates petal or teardrop shapes. It's super popular in floral designs, but you can get creative with it for all kinds of motifs like leaves, vines, or decorative accents.
🧵 How to Do the Detached Chain Stitch
Bring the needle up through the fabric at point A.
Insert the needle back in at the same point A (or very close to it), but don’t pull the thread all the way through. Leave a small loop on the surface.
Come up again at point B (a short distance away, where you want the tip of the petal to go), making sure the needle comes up inside the loop.
Pull the thread through gently to form a looped petal.
Secure the loop by making a tiny stitch just outside the loop (point C), anchoring it with a small straight stitch.
✨ Tips
Keep your tension even but not too tight—you want the loop to sit nicely on the fabric, not get squished.
You can cluster multiple stitches around a center to form a flower or arrange them along a stem for leaves.
🌼 Uses
Petals (classic lazy daisy flowers)
Leaves (just adjust the angle and length)
Decorative accents on borders
