Weaving the 6th sample for the Irish shaggy pile project!

Using the Icelandic shaggy pile technique with both the tip and cut end of each lock sticking out of the surface of the cloth. On a plain weave ground with no knots. This teqnique used 3 rows of spun weft then a row with the lock inserts an spun weft together.

I haven't cut the two apart yet as I want to deal with some of the (whoops) floats before cutting and hemming. These will go to my sister, who is fortunately tolerant of novice weaver learning curve... /o\

This is mostly plain weave (I had a 4H 6T loom still tied up for the last project so there are occasional interludes away from tabby whenever I got bored of the tabby treadles on 5 and 6), using the Yoga Towel & Blanket pattern from Yarn Barn of Kansas. The white weft (easiest to see on the edges) is 8/16 cotton for the blanket/mat; the purple weft is 3/2 Beam cotton from Gist Yarn.

Catten was very hlep.

This sample is #5 in my Irish shaggy pile project and is using the technique suggested by Calberg who examined the St.brigid mantle textile. This teqnique uses no weft. The supplementary pile cut ends are buried in the weaving and over lap to create a weft like structure!

I'm increasingly a fan of GIANT CHOPSTICKS bamboo sticks lashed together for lease sticks. (They came with the Inagaki R-25 loom.)

This could go horribly wrong, but I did a conversion from (a) rising shed tie-up to sinking shed (b) Lakeview Placemats tie-up (Gist Yarn, pattern by Kristina Nichols) to the tie-up already in place.

Yep, catten is at it again. She's SO ANGRY when this loom isn't warped. /o\

I cannot get over how her BELLY FLOOF sticks through the bottom of the warp! Nice to know this warp (cotton 8/4, "rug warp") holds up to a 13-lb. catten lol.
