On September 21, 1936, the Handley Page H.P.52 Hampden prototype was made from Radlettu. The "Flying Suitcase" became one of the main RAF bombers at the beginning of the second world. #OTD #RAF #Hampden

At first glance, most people here would probably identify this as the 'flying suitcase' otherwise know as the Handley Page Hampden.

Closer inspection reveals it's a Napier Dagger engined variants, renamed as HP Herefords. Noisy and very unreliable, none saw operational service.
