i think ophelia singing herself through her madness and grief is so tragically beautiful. ophelia they could NEVER make me hate you
‘Hamlet is mad’ is the original ‘we’re concerned about your mental health’ said by people who benefit from you shutting up.
Saw a production of Hamlet recently, it was really cool
The tea:
The actor who played Hamlet also played the ghost
3 actors performed the entirety of the play
Yes all of it, including the play in the play
(It did bring a new dimension to freud's interpretation mind you)
Hamlet tells the audience not to give away his secret about his 'madness'
There was no Horatio :(
The audience was Horatio :)
2 out of the 3 actors were actually a father/son duo
The father was in his 50s and the son in his 20s
Hamlet killing Polonius and fighting with Claudius? Hit way harder knowing it was an actual father/son duo
Hamlet and Gertrude were in the audience watching the actors rehearse the play
The play was ONLY 1 hour and 25 minutes??
Hamlet has a megaphone that he uses to direct the actors
Which was one of the only props
The other was a blue blazer, used to differentiate when an actor would play 2 characters at once or switch between characters
Hamlet accidentally sets of the megaphone siren
It was fully in Dutch, which did work
Old people are addicted to their phone, it was insane!
Hamlet got to have his menty B moments, as Audience!Horatio you wanted to take him away from Denmark and burrito him
Hamlet's actor says dad to his actual dad, who is a well know Dutch theater actor, in the scene where he plays one of the actors, then continuous by calling 'his' other works rubbish, with a bit to much glee
The end scenes of the play were stationary, delivered by the son actor, who played ALL the parts, almost played as a narration
For every death he would hold a hand off a cast mate, 1 hand of the female actress when the queen died, one hand of his (actual!) dad when Laertes died and his dad's other hand when Claudius dies
It ended on "The rest is silence" while they were all holding hands
It really slapped, would have liked for it to have been longer TBH

Waves my hand over my head do you guys ever think about Ophelia
Horatio wanted to die but couldn't, and now he has to live with the memory of his best friend dying in front of his eyes while he was unable to help :(
hamlet: "oh no we're all doomed by the narrative" maybe you are. i'm the narrative's favourite hamlet, surrounded by dead bodies: update: turns out this is not a good thing for me
