can honestly say very few tv show scenes have caused me to ascend to such heights of sheer excitement and OH SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTT-ness as the end of black sails' s1 ep7. this owes in no small part to bear mccreary's fucking inspired rendering of the parson's farewell. the way it begins as just a frisky little background tune during the flashback to gates and dufresne's talk, then slowly builds in weight as we zoom in on their faces, dufresne's "once we have the money, flint dies, no argument," and gates's fatalistic reply, "not from me—"
AND WE COME CRASHING BACK to the sight of gates and flint on their respective ships, main theme music taking over, only to segue beautifully back into the farewell while we watch the ships set sail KNOWING EPIC BETRAYAL AND DEATH IS IMMINENT
many years and many rewatches later it still makes my heart flutter ya know?????
