Planning containers for the coming season then Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' (Japanese forest grass) might be a useful addition to a display. The narrow leaves have broad yellow to cream stripes, edged in light green and form a low dense tussock.

Hakonechloa macra (Japanese forest grass, hakone grass, ornamental grass) forms clumps of elegant arching foliage and grows well in moist, humus-rich soil in cool shade. It works well edging a path, underplanting shrubs or in containers.

Forming a low, dense mound, which will change from gold to russet in the autumn Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' will create a light patch among darker foliage. This ornamental grass has narrow leaves, with broad yellow to cream stripes, with light green margins. It can be used as an edging to paths and looks great in containers.
