Here is my logic for their coloration. So they lived in the central United States, which was a semi tropical environment at the time with the climate similar to modern day Florida and I wanted their coloration to reflect that. However, they were also herd animals and herdsanimals don’t have to worry as much about camouflage. That’s not to say they don’t have to worry about camouflage at all. They just don’t have to worry about completely blending into the environment.

Rather, they have to worry about blending in with each each other and when they’re in a herd it is beneficial to make it difficult to differentiate individual bodies. So, I gave them stripes like zebras.
