“I didn’t think you would be this glad to see me again.” Disbelief was evident in his voice as his eyes lingered anywhere except looking straight in the blonde’s eyes. “Look,” he began, his voice sounded defeated and dropped an octave lower, “You don’t have to explain anything to me. I get it. What happened between you and me it was — a one time thing.” He gathered the right words to say but what exactly where they? How he wished there was a book where it told you how to let go of someone you love so dearly, but sadly, there isn’t any. He has to find it on his own to let the blonde go because he can never have something that was never his. “Don’t apologize. Just be happy with him.” He heard himself say before he even fully thought it through. He wasn’t sure if it was believable enough, but he hoped it was enough for the beautiful blonde to stop giving him sad eyes. The last thing he wanted was pity, not from the woman that turned his whole life upside down.
There was a beat as he waited patiently articulating his thoughts. He knew this may be the last time he would ever laid eyes on Hadley ever again. The reality of it all was daunting him but he needed to heal and he knew he could never do that if he continued to say in Monarch but he didn’t anyone to know about his departure. “Just promise me one thing,” he finally spoke, taking a step forward tucking the lose strand of hair that was covering the beautiful woman’s face. “Don’t think of me. Don’t worry about me. Focus on you. Be happy. Fulfill your dreams. Prove everyone wrong this way, I know I’ll be happy leaving you with him.” With those words, he leaned in to kiss the taller girl’s forehead, sighing heavily as he retreated and with sad eyes, he started to walk away.
