I think it's a safe bet...
...that Kitten is feeling a bit misanthropic at this point. Sir-D still won't tell him everything. Grimal is gone. Marckus is gone. The Coalition is rotten, and those parts of it who would shift themselves to help proved just a hair less than completely useless.
So picture this: there's Kitten, standing out like a lightning rod to any kind of malign force that a) could easily latch onto a heartfelt hatred for the extant world, b) has already proven to be present within the Coalition, entwined even with the faith of the Leopoldites and c) is completely unknown to him.
Kitten wasn't there when Marckus did...whatever it was he did. He wasn't with Door and Boy at the burger place. He doesn't know. Sir-D certainly didn't tell him. And suppose that something, anything, starts creeping into him, giving him in whatever unclean way it does the power to, for once, strike a wound into a world that has ripped away his certainties, his friends, and his love- I'm not sure that he would resist the temptation for very long at all.
