When Aslaug comes to Kattegat Gyda is very intrigued but out of loyalty to her mother she remains distant. Gyda is a sweet girl so she wouldn't be outright rude like Bjorn was. Then when Lagertha leaves it is kinda expected that she would leave with her and Bjorn would stay, but Gyda stays because of the bond she has with her father.
Years pass and Gyda doesn't show the abilities of mother with a shield but proves to be very wise. Aslaug see something in her like she has but the distance remains because Gyda is a potent reminder of Lagertha.
Then Jarl Borg attacks Gyda protects her little brothers and Aslaug as well as comforting Aslaug during the time Ragnar was gone.
Then tension happens when the Lothbroks reunite!
