Lightning Bolt “Air Conditioning” (2019)
Some of our best broadcasts on Omega WUSB ended on a high note. Not with laughter or drugs (mind you), but with Lightning Bolt. For one spring deluxe garage / lo-fi / noise rock volume that lasted five hours, it took Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s “Piss Crowns Are Trebled” to get to Lightning Bolt’s “Snow White (& The Seven Dwarves Fans)“ (both ‘15) and by the time it was over, so were we. It was like we died and went to the oblivians. So we tried going there again. We ended a recent deluxe garage / lo-fi / noise rock broadcast with “Air Conditioning”, a new one from their upcoming Sonic Citadel and we came close. Lightning Bolt are never the type to stop forcing their way in, noise-jamming and prying hard via a two-man drums-and-bass operation that’s as spriteful as much as it’s intense and invigorating electric. We’ve featured them before our Omega days when peak hipster kicked in, the Providence scene, and Load Records were everything. Want a ticket to fantasy-land and d.i.y. heaven? It starts here.
