I get people saying they were rushed and gwen was kinda falling for kevin way too fast especially considering their last interaction in os but after seeing their characteristics and their weak spots ( kevins trauma and feelings that hes a monster and gwen having to be perfect but not feeling like she belongs ) these two provide a good influence to one another.

In the verdona ep , kevin being the only one that wants gwen to stay , he speak his truth he knows gwen leaving would probably be good for her but he still wants her to stay , gwen probably wanted someone to tell her to stay not like how everyone was saying you can leave no she wanted to see someone who wants her to stay and kevin was that one .

I understand them not even looking at each other faces as kids , kevin was an insane kid with crazy superpowers out of control who was lashing out at everyone, gwen didn’t understand the feeling of getting bullied and picked on as a child ( no one is touching gwen in school boy shes gonna flip your shit ) thats why she didn’t want ben to interfere and try to help ben from the older kids .

But as teens things between them are calmer and they can interact without having to fight one another to death still wish things got a little slower but i love those two together

I love them together because even with their rushed start on both sides and the writers making characters voices for conflict in some episodes that cause them to fight for dumb reasons (which is just a general series problem for UAF in non-arc focused episodes) they really are just an amazing couple together on every front. Even Kevin’s emotionally constipated ass, before they are even dating mind you, can say he cares and wouldn’t want to see her go in What Are Little Girls Made Of?

I can totally see Gwen’s rushing in as a “Getting a Good Grade in Being Teenager” because girls her age normally go after the guy and hey, Kevin is there and she’d need to hide the least about herself from him. I got her on some AroAce spectrum with me, she just incidentally ended up fixating on the guy that actually makes her happy and more than once picks being her body shield over anything else happening in a fight. Because Kevin is just, so so down bad I find it hilarious but they do legitimately show and bring out the best version of eachother while not seeking to change the other.

Kevin’s about that “Happy wife, happy life” living and I respect that

The mutual acknowledgment that they both had to grow up faster than other peers.

For drastically different reasons and in drastically different ways and in drastically different environments, both allowed to be children in limited ways: Kevin being completely alone, having to learn how to survive and manage himself and his powers, learning to be self sufficient while Gwen always being the responsible one, the one to set the example and consistently performing as the "mature one for her age" because that's what's the expectation is-

Both understanding that love is conditional, that they have to deserve it in some capacity. Kevin knows he cannot be loved unless he chooses to hide what he is (and not wear it on his sleeve like he loves to do); Gwen knows she cannot be loved unless she bends over backwards to have something to offer as proof that she's worthy of it.

Picture Kevin joining the team, Gwen who has known this guy only by the harm he caused to her cousin be absolutely not on board with taking such a risk, especially with Max gone, and making it very clear that if something happens to Ben she will actually kill him. They loathe each other, compete with each other, just do not like each other and yet there's this frustrating jealousy that Kevin feels in seeing Ben being so protected and so loved by Gwen despite being a little shit and a part of him yearns for that unconditional care, just as there's this frustrating jealousy Gwen feels in seeing Kevin somehow being given a chance in spite of what he did when she knows that wouldn't be allowed if they switched places.

Then as they grow closer and closer, both casually via fighting besides each other and bonding over mutual interests and by learning more about one another, they start to actually see each other: Kevin sees how Gwen doesn't care for people who don't pay her mind and in spite of all their microaggressions because she's virtuous or mature or secure but because she's unable and unwilling to recognize the issue and she needs things to stay that way or everything falls apart; Gwen sees how Kevin isn't distrusting and at times unapproachable because he's a criminal who needs correction, nor he indulges in crime because at heart he cannot change, but because he literally had never been able to afford a different way of life and he's desperately looking for stability in his life.

And yes I 100% believe that they became friends and gwen suggested kevin get one of his ears pierced cuz she thought he'd look cool.

she pierced one of his ears with ice and a needle in her bedroom, and yes, it got infected lol.

But post infection , it did look kinda cool and kevin still has that piercing somewhere in his car ( he took it off some time later because it kept getting caught in fights)
