Let’s stop calling Lefou, from Beauty and the Beast, a gay character!
Don’t accept him! His name is literally from French "Le Fou", the FOOL! Literally a mockery, since he is the idiot for licking Gaston's boot. There was never a hint of romantic love in the animated movie, he was a JOKE! He spends the entire movie fan-girling over Gaston, he's a minion following blindly his master's order, they don't need to pretend to be a mean-spirited representation of a gay couple, ok?
And then came that atrocity in form of live action! That movie makes so many mistakes that Lefou could be the least significant of them. And yet it is infuriating! He is not interesting, he is a caricature of a person, and the whole “you’re too good for him” line from the pot is so stupid! At the end he get somewhat of a redemption and dance with a guy! Heck, that is worse than not making him gay at all!
I WANT GOOD REPRESENTATION!
I don’t mind the closeted character that is infatuated by some toxic man, when they are shown to have real chemistry. The OG Gaston treats Lefou as carpet! Gaston is the apex hunter, beloved by everyone in the village, he is the embodiment of all the manly man characteristics: charming, overly aggressive and running by testosterone! (The live-action attempts to make the villagers less problematic by making them not worship Gaston, but it is worst...) Is Lefou attracted by it? Sure, but not romantically, he wants to BE Gaston!
I've been pretty silent on my account for more than a week, and I apologize! Thing is, I really don't know what to create as of right now, and I'm very slowly trying to finish what I've already started. I'm still alive, though, and I'll be very happy to share more of my art once I'm done with it! However, as of right now, I'm afraid that you'll have to bear with my silence for longer.
