Actually, I do have a headcanon that Val was the real mastermind behind the Maraca Snake surprise. She has a pet snake herself, so she'd be the person to go to when learning how to imitate one. The episode also hints at Gust and Val being familiar enough with each other's mannerisms that he's able to pass as her in disguise - and when you add in Val's comment that she "really shoulda seen that coming", it makes you wonder just how much time they've spent together offscreen.
