i've always found it curious that the chantry kept templars lyrium addicted and no one thought it was weird
From the wiki:
"Lyrium is used by the Chantry to control the templars. Templars are given lyrium to "develop their talents" (though Alistair seems to doubt whether it actually has any real effect), which also leaves them addicted and thus within the control of the Chantry, which controls the lyrium trade."
So yeah... one big scam to control every aspect of their Order...
I stand by the fact that while some templars are genuinely awful (I WILL ALWAYS KILL SER KARRAS.) a lot are just victims of circumstance. Poor, with no other real options but to join the Order, believing it to be a great and honorable thing.
