With that in mind, does it mean anything that Mo has the same color palette as Sha Dali? Was he a regular cat before Sha Dali adopted him? All his other cats seem pretty normal, so it probably isn’t Just Something That Happens whenever an animal is around a yaoguai for long enough.
Sha Dali’s character is inspired by the Hulk and co., who at one point saved his cousin Jennifer’s life by giving her an emergency blood transfusion, transforming her into She-Hulk. (This flashback is from Immortal She-Hulk, 2020.)
So we have a critically injured cat and no time to get to a vet, assuming a vet could do anything to help at this point, and maybe Sha Dali is still in the “ruthless fighter” part of his life but he was never so heartless as to walk away from something like this, and healing isn’t his forte but he has power to spare so he can at least buy the cat some time while he figures something else out, and long story short he went a little overboard with the healing spell and Mo recovered just fine but he’s different now.
Like, Mo’s obviously smart enough to be Sha Dali’s primary therapy cat, but he’s also smart enough to not need a leash when Sha Dali takes him outside. He never worries Sha Dali by wandering off and getting into trouble, and he doesn't panic and run/hide when he winds up in a battle because he knows he’s safest near Sha Dali and the other heroes.
He also knows how to help with the ship, deal with minor threats when Sha Dali isn't available, drive a mech, and fire a laser-gun. I don’t know if he’s on the same level as that one goldfish the Bodhisattva Guanyin has, but he's definitely Smarter Than Your Average Cat.
Maybe that’s why Jin assumed Mo was able to talk back in “Calabash”? He’s pretty vocal and seems to understand speech, could he actually learn how? Huntsman got to say “damn” back in “To Catch a Leaf”, Mo deserves to be able to swear too!
