MERLIN SEASON 4 SPOILER
There is such a radical change between season 3 and 4
Idk why maybe my hyperfixation will make me research later but like
Outside of the overall "mechanic" things like the graphics and the sets
You can see SO MUCH changed in the writing itself only by observing the relationships
Take for example Gwaine and Merlin, romantic or platonically whichever you like, in season 3 they were so close, they were pratically best friends
In season 4? They look like awkward exes who don't know how to act around each other AND THAT WAS NOT THE INTENTION OF THE WRITERS! You can clearly see they were trying to get back to their "friendly banter" from season 3 but failed miserably
Or take Lancelot, Arthur and Gwen
Considering how much the Merlin show diverges from the original legends you actually don't know with which one she'll end up with
I'm not a big fan of love triangles (i hate them) but this was done so good i was actually intrigued
BUT NOPE
IN SEASON 4 THEY SAID FUCK IT AND NOT ONLY KILLED LANCELOT AT THE BEGINNING
BUT ALSO GAVE GWEN A MAGIC BRACELET TO BE IN LOVE WITH LANCE WHEN HE COMES BACK?!? (4x09)
There is such a drastic change in EVERYTHING than you can hardly belive it's the same series

Something i really appreciate about Gwaine is that he understands that a no is a no
Men, expecially in medieval/historical romances, often don't do that because they "need to conquer" the woman because it's ""romantic""

The exact moment he realizes (3x04) that Gwen is uncomfortable, he immediatly stops and moves on
When they re-meet he is strictly platonic and i like to think they actually become friends
Whenever Percival comes back from a very hard mission or just from a really heavy day he likes to go to Lancelot's tomb and having a pic nic there
Narrating him all the adventures they had since the last time he came
He always brings food for two knowing well half will not be eaten
And flowers
He secretly learned how to make flower crowns because he always thought that just putting the flowers there wasn't enough
He wanted it to be more meaningful, personal
He never tells the other knights, too scared of their opinion
Only after the final battle instead of just eating there he sleeps too
In the morning he finds Gwen next to him, and without a word they go back home together
