There’s no emergency out in the barn, though of course he’s acting like there is so she’ll get out here faster. He couldn’t be normal and just tell her there was a surprise for her waiting out in the barn.
It might appear to some that Kaygen didn’t listen. Granted, sometimes he didn’t. But he had in fact paid attention and listened every time Allie had expressed her love of sweet baby cows anytime they passed a pasture of them in the truck or even when they were out riding the Grant land.
Kaygen shifted back against one of the posts in the barn where he sat, fingers scratching the head of the calf curled up beside him, lulled into a peaceful rest at the touch of his hands while they waited on Allie to come out to the barn.

This marks Abby’s second visit to the state of California. The first time was a result of her father urging her to take a break after graduation before she begins studying for the bar exam. All in all it was a good experience. Making some new friends along the way. It’s also during this time when she began dating Mike Warren before breaking things off. Fearing he wasn’t being completely honest with her. So she didn’t really anticipate crossing paths with him or his friends again when her work brought her back here. Besides, what were the odds? Well, apparently quite high since she just so happens to cross paths with an injured Johnny shortly after arriving at the Bureau.

However, she doesn’t ask. Apart from the questions relating to what she assumes to be a recent injury. If the blood on his clothing and bandage is anything to go by. But apparently he’s fine. If she can believe his words. She’s half-tempted to simply continue walking – folder in hand – when a thought comes to her. She was asked to come here to meet with the agent associated to the case she’ll be working on. One of her first, in fact. And if her memory holds true, she can remember his name from when she was last here in California.

The drive back into the city took him just under an hour, not including the stop he had made whilst grabbing lunch. It was one of the few things he resented about moving. He missed the familiarity of the city. Their apartment. Tempest. Heck, even the traffic. Mostly, he missed his friend, Piper. They spoke frequently, but the comfort of having her around was no longer there. The routine that he had grown accustomed to had changed and it was strange. It was different. Aries sent a string of text messages to Piper whilst he stopped at a grocery store, picking up a box of strawberries and a bottle of cheap wine. It was a shared joke between the pair. Piper had a selection of expensive wine, courtesy of the wine-tasting she attended. Her fondness for alcohol would never change. Aries would often drink from her selection and replace it with whatever cheap wine he found at the convenience store before she could notice. She did notice. Every time. They would stay up, sitting in her bed and talking while drinking from the shitty alcohol he bought her. Aries: You’re not busy, right? Aries: I forgot to mention I was coming this weekend :) Aries: I thought it would be a pleasant surprise. Their previously shared apartment came into view as he turned the corner, noticing her car in the driveway and pulling up at the sidewalk. He didn’t take her car being there as a sign of her being home. She would often go for walks or take her bike. Instead, he waited for her response while sitting in his car and switched the radio on, letting his head fall against the headrest. @growinguphartless
