anyway the vet called at 5:40pm last night and let me know that jack’s ashes are ready to be collected at my earliest convenience. i let it go to voicemail because i wasn’t sure if i’d get choked with an Involuntary Sob washing over me because i couldn’t tell if we were still in Unpredictable Emotional Response territory over here, but instead i just felt a kind of... relief? or at least a sense of finality. it’s over, there’s nothing else to dread. i’ll go in on monday morning and bring him home.
