I know this is not really my normal content but being in the WROEF fandom is it just me who thinks the curse does exist but not in the way you think. The curse isn’t some evil thing following the family and killing them it’s just straight generational neglect.

Edie’s father may have neglected her as a kid so she did the same to her kids who (if lived and had some) did it to their kids.

Because most of the deaths could have totally been prevented if it wasn’t for the parents being neglectful.

If Molly wasn’t locked in her room without food were she likely died in her sleep due to the food she ate not acting well in her stomach or a sickness that isn’t mentioned (since it was 1947) and covered up, Calvin being watched better or they got rid of the swing LITERALLY OVER A CLIFF??

Sam is more like just personal neglect since I mean why go near a half dead dear to take a photo over a cliff your own twin brother died from falling almost 22 years ago. I feel like if trusting his daughter or waited for the deer to react since it takes more then one shot to kill something as big as a dear but depends on were you shot it (I mean from the looks of it he haunted a lot so he should know..)

The only ones that may have not been prevented are Barbara and Lewis. I don’t think they can really be saved sadly.

since Barbara was a child star, which if she was actually murdered and not some coverup Edie told me he media so they wouldn’t call her out on her neglect. she would have to not be a child star and that would change her character and story completely HOWEVER if she instead died of maybe falling off the railing because of her own paranoia (I’ll explain in another post) then maybe if she never heard the radio she would still be alive.

For Lewis tho he already had mental health problems. Likely from his dad dying, brother going missing and being told he’s basically doomed for being a finch there’s not much to save. Maybe if he was given a therapist sooner to work these issues out or he went more into detail about his day dreams he would never commit but I don’t really know for sure. Plus Dawn was trying to actually help her kids and break that cycle.

But there are a few characters deaths that could have been prevented by another character surviving

Gus and Gregory I think both depend on each other. Gregory could have been saved if he didn’t have that frog toy (maybe) or taken out of the tub while Kay went to answer the phone, but she also didn’t wanna Gregory to hear her and Sam fighting or talk about the divorce which left him unattended and he drowned. Gus didn’t want a stepmom and since Sam divorced Kay, still wanting his mom. If Gregory were still alive he would likely be forced to take care of him or help Dawn out but Gregory be 6 if he lived so maybe he’d ask to play with Gus and he’d stop flying his kite but I don’t think so since he was rebellious but that’s a maybe. If not then he would be another character that can’t be saved.

Walter also kinda depends on another character to live like Gus and Gregory. Walter kinda depends on Barbara. If he never saw or heard her get murdered (if true) then he wouldn’t think something bad is out there and start locking himself in the basement, if she Fell however he would lead to the same thing or he’d lock himself in the basement/bungler thinking he’s safer because Barbara fell from a high place, he can’t fall there. If Barbara lived he’d never lock himself there and get ran over by a train in the end.

But Milton is a whole other story I fear. I feel he didn’t die/go missing due to neglect but his own imagination taking him new places and getting lost, or he saw something in the coracores of the house or just in the house that made him leave since he’s 11 when he disappeared. Which either one can’t be pretend.

Meanwhile Walter was finally ready to see the outside world and all that life had to offer. He lived on routine for so many years, and yet the one time the train wasn’t on time was when he left. His death was so unbelievably tragic in that it’s what he spent his entire life fearing that killed him— the dangers of living in the outside world. When he was finally ready for the world he didn’t even get the chance to understand what that truly meant. And the last thing he saw was the sky which was for the first time in like 33 years. Walter’s death isn’t through the eyes of an innocent child who barely understands the world. But it was nearly the same in that it was Walter’s fear and naivety that killed him.

Lewis’s death was just awful. Knowing he died the way he did and knowing there's a small chance he didnt even realize what he was doing when he killed himself. The game makes you reflect on your own imaginative capabilities and the depths of just how far your imagination goes. It makes you think about how you choose to detach from reality, and whether or not you are doing it in a healthy way. It has you debating whether the fantastical world in your head is better than what’s in front of you, and whether you'd be willing to leave the life you currently have for it. For Lewis it was, because the monotony and the receptiveness of his daily life is really what pushed him over the edge. The question of "Why should he have to live the dreadful life he has, when the one in his mind was everything he actually wanted but impossible to attain?" And what’s interesting is that his psychiatrist didn’t tell him something was wrong because she thought the positive thoughts were good for him. But thats for another rant.
