The last new episode of Smallville aired on May 13, 2011. It was a 2 hour series finale. The series ran for 10 seasons and 217 episodes. The episode took place in 2011 and 2018. Michael Rosenbaum returned as Lex Luther, who appeared to kill Tess Mercer(Cassidy Freeman). John Schneider (Johnathan Kent - marking the first time he shared an episode with Annette O'Toole/Martha Kent since season 5), John Glover (Lionel Luther), and Terence Stamp (Jor El) also made guest appearances. The episode would mark the final acting role of Steve Adams. The episode would also feature the Planet Apokolips, Darkseid, Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow), Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen), Steve Beyers (Desaad), Christine Willes (Granny Goodness), and Michael Dangerfield (Gordon Godfrey). Many others appeared through archive footage. The episode marked the first time in the series Superman flew. John Williams iconic Superman theme and Lois Lane love theme were used in the episode. Lois and Clark got married. Tom Welling (Clark Kent/Superman) and Erica Durance (Lois Lane) would return in their roles in the multiverse CW Arrowverse crossover event "Crisis on Infinite Earths".
