I found this bit that was me getting ideas out before I wrote the story, and it never really fit what I wrote, but I like it a lot. Greer and PolkaDot Patterson having a real conversation.
The cardboard cutout talking to her, accusing her of allowing everyone to die
Other cardboard cutouts: Kennedy, Trevino, TiVy, Elijah, Hobbs, all accusing her. Why is she alive and they are not? What makes her special? What did she do to earn this?
Greer runs out of the forest, to the rocky shore encampment of Elsewhere. Thereâs people there, and everything she needs is there. She refuses to eat. Instead, she sits on the shore and watches the ferries come in and out.
She notices a cardboard cutout behind her. Itâs Dot. She bristles at this. Fucking Dot. And then thereâs another Dot cutout. This oneâs holding a coffee. And then it moves.
Greer is, of course, annoyed to see Dot there. But also relieved. Dot is an anchor back to the real world.
Dot doesnât like that Greerâs not eating. They bring her cinnabeef. âYouâre punishing yourself.â
Greer: I could have stopped it.
Dot: No you couldnât. You donât have the blessings for it.
Greer: Then I should have gotten them!
Dot: It doesnât work that way.
Greer: Thatâs easy for you to say. The darling of the gods. Mx. Perfect Pitcher. At least I earned my strikeouts, Patterson. Thatâs all me. I didnât need help from those fuckers.
Dot: [listening, thinking] Do you want it?
Greer: âŚwhat?
Dot: Do you want the blessings of the gods? Do you want to be under their thumb all the time?
Greer: [says nothing]
Dot: You could have it. You could get shelled, and sacrificed, and pitch games until your fingers bleed. That can be you. And when itâs all done, you could be dragged around the league every season, far from home, far from the people you care about. And when thatâs not good enough, they will ask you to be someone youâre not. You can have all of that if you want it.
Greer is quiet. Who would even want me?
Dot listens
Greer: The Pies didnât want me. Who else would? They sent me back as soon as they could.
Dot: Thatâs not true. The fans wanted you back, enough to send one of our best batters to get you.
I like to think that Greer goes back to the Gleek, where it used to be, just to be there. She can't help herself. How do you get over something like Blaseball, 24 years of your life, 24 years of lost friends and scars and everything? How do you get to normal?

I was literally thinking about this scene yesterday, from PolkaDot Patterson Enters the Vault: One bad-at-emotions person confronts another bad-at-emotions person.
The cheering outside rose, and Greer looked annoyed, almost growling at it.
"Maybe it isn't about who cares-" Dot started.
"Holy shit, shut the fuck up," Greer said. "This isn't some noble sacrifice. You're not saving anyone here. What are you being devoted to? The Boss? BLASEBALL? Havenât you given up enough of yourself to Blaseball? Is there any PolkaDot Patterson left to give out?â
"You wouldn't understand," Dot said.Â
"I DON'T UNDERSTAND," Greer said, throwing her hands up. "I don't get why you're doing this. This is stupid and you're-" She caught herself, looking surprised at herself. Tears streamed down her cheeks. She wiped them away. "You asshole. You donât even know who you're hurting.â

From Garbage at the End of the World, Eugenia Garbage and Greer Lott spend the last moments of their time together before being pulled into the Black Hole (Black Hole):
âCan I ask you something?â Greer asked before finally taking a long drink of her beer.
âOf course,â Eugenia said.
âWhy me?â
âGreerâŚâ
âYou could have had your pick of anyone on this team, anyone would have happily been your friend, why did you give me so much of your attention?â Greer stared hard at the bleachers.
âBecause I knew that, despite everything, youâre still that excited, happy kid who got to play Blaseball for a living, and maybe I wanted to protect her. And maybe cause I wanted a challenge.â
Greer, despite herself, laughed. She punched Eugenia, but not too hard for fear that she might fall apart.
âAnd maybe because caring about people was so counter to everything the Peanut and the Boss ever stood for. Maybe that was the best I could do to fight them. And maybeâŚâ Eugenia said, giving Greer a small, tired smile. ââŚmaybe, after everything, I just like you.â
Greer said nothing, not at first. She looked up to the void and winced. Eugenia watched her struggle, knew her struggle, and finally Greer said, âIâm glad I was lucky enough to be on your team.â

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
Another fic anniversary from February. My Garbage Friend explores a few ideas: what if Greer Lott is secretly a huge nerd, and what if Eugenia Garbage becomes her friend because of it?
This one starts really strong, but I feel like I whiffed it on the conceit, that Greer is using this fake Star Trek (Stlar Trlek?) to process PTSD, and has come to see its crew as a source of stability.
Over all pretty good, though! And it served to get one of my favorite Blaseball BroTPs together.
Got an đ from @trulyantitonic so heres another wip. I said in the tags of my last post I donât have a lot of jenkins related wips and with this one Iâm going to make myself look like a clown and post another jenkins related one but I honestly think these might be my only two jenkins wips lmfao AND this one is mostly about Greer
In retrospect, Greerâs alternation doesnât change much about her life at all.Â
Sure, there's now this tall and scary Alternate Greer (who prefers to be called âLottieâ), and Greerâs cardboard cutout is nowhere to be found, but other than that not much changes.Â
For all intents and purposes, Lottie is supposed to be the one who pitches all the games due to being Greerâs Alternate, but unlike Patterson, she has spine, and isnât gonna let some newbie pitcher take her spotlight.Â
(Patterson has told her time and time again that she could call them Dot. But Greer denies this with vehemence every time. Patterson is Patterson.
âŚThe other one can be Alto though.)
Though, Lottie is kinda cool⌠and tall⌠and, well, Eugenia points out to her that she had the cardboard cutout playing half of her games anyway and that âIt really wouldnât be that different to have Lottie pitch some of your games now would it?â to which Greer grumbles and crosses her arms.Â
Regardless, not much changes. Greer does her regular thing, and Lottie comes to stay in her spare bedroom that expanded out of the spot used to be the cabinet where her cutout was placed when she was home, and Jenkins avoids them both like the plague.
Hand holding, 14 and/or 42, they're kind of the same. Also, Eugenia and Greer?
finally getting around to the asks from this prompt list! have some early s3 Eugenia still working on being a person, especially the Making Friends aspect of being a person :)
14 + 42: grabbing hand to show them something + dragging the other with them, holding their hand
Thereâs something oozing under the door of the storage closet.
Half-eaten blaseball in hand, Greer watches it seep closer, wondering if she should move all the other blaseballs out of oozing range or if the gunk might add some flavour. Before she can decide, it gathers itself up and forms into something vaguely person-shaped, looking at Greer with an unmistakable smile.
âEugenia,â Greer says flatly. âWhat the hell.â
âGreer Lott!â Eugenia gurgles, undeterred by this greeting. âFound you!â
âYeah, what's your point? You playing hide-and-seek or something? Because I'm not. I'm just sitting here in this closet minding my own business.â Greer points the half-eaten blaseball at her threateningly. âYouâd better not be planning on ratting me out for eating the blaseballs. There's like a million in here, and nobodyâs using them for anything. Can't let them go to waste.â
Eugenia shakes her head emphatically, which makes her entire body jiggle. âWon't tell.â
âWhat do you want, then?â
She wiggles with excitement, reaching out two armlike appendages. One shoves the door open, and the other wraps itself around Greerâs hand, shifting into something almost handlike itself. It's sticky and squishy and strangely warm, and Greer's first instinct is to pull away, but Eugenia pulls first.
âCome,â she says, tugging on Greerâs hand, leading her out into the rest of the Gleek.Â
Greer stumbles through the soggy halls; Eugenia moves surprisingly fast for an amalgamation of garbage. âHow many times do I have to tell you, Iâm not joining your stupid nightmare arts and crafts club for babies!â
Eugenia shakes her head again, the jiggles traveling all the way down her arm and making Greerâs hand tingle. âJust showing you.â
âShowing me what?â Greer shoves the last of the blaseball in her mouth and chews it impatiently.
âThis!â Eugenia gestures to the open door of the art room with a flourish.
It looks the same as always. Scattered art supplies on the tables, drawings tacked up on the walls. Greer belatedly realizes Eugenia has a few markers sticking out of her goop as she tugs Greer forward to a piece of paper that's been left on the table.
âFor you,â she says proudly.
Greer squints at the drawing. It depicts two figures on a blaseball field, standing next to each other on what seems to be the pitcherâs mound, a pile of blaseballs beside them. One is a blob with a big smile, winding up to throw a pitch. The other is a taller stick figure with an unusually sharp toothy grin and a half-eaten blaseball in their hand.
She recognizes this scene. Sheâd started giving Eugenia pitching lessons, annoyed at how Hobbs kept bragging that heâd taught the garbage how to bat. Any loser can wave a stick around, but throwing the ball to the losers in the right way takes skill, and anyway, Eugenia had seemed more than happy to learn. She'd accidentally absorbed a few blaseballs before she got the hang of throwing them, but hey, those things are tasty, Greer can't blame her.
âThank you for teaching me,â Eugenia enunciates slowly and carefully. âI drew it!â
âIt's. Uh. It looks good. Nice job on the teeth. Thanks.â Greer is starting to feel weird, all soft and goopy inside, like Eugeniaâs sludge that's still wrapped around her hand. Maybe she ate too many blaseballs?
Eugenia somehow manages to beam brighter than the smile she gave herself in the picture. âYou're welcome!â Greer tries to put it back down, but Eugenia shakes her head, dislodging one of the markers. âKeep it! It's yours.â
âWhat am I supposed to do with it?â
She shrugs, finally ungooping herself from Greer's hand. âLook at it.â
Looking at it makes her feel things she's not used to, so Greer rolls it up and sticks it in her pocket, then swipes the marker off the floor and bites it in half, soaking in the juice. Mmmm, red. The best flavour.
âWait a minute,â Greer says suspiciously just before Eugenia can turn to go. âWhyâd you have to drag me all the way here? You couldâve just brought me the picture. It's like you wanted to hold hands with me or something.â
Eugenia blinks at her, but Greer knows all kinds of plots and schemes lurk beneath that innocent front. âFriends!â
âFriends?â Greer snorts. âWe're not friends. I don't have those.âÂ
Infuriatingly, Eugenia just smiles and oozes away rather than argue about it. Greer mutters a stream of curses under her breath and gnaws away at the marker as she pulls the drawing out again. She tries to ignore the goopy feeling in her chest, tries to pretend it doesn't feel nice. Friends, with Eugenia? Ridiculous.
