This guest post is by Andrea Talley, founder of health food company GreenLid, who recently booked a campsite on Hipcamp. We were super inspired by Andrea's self-challenge to immerse herself with the outdoors after a ten year hiatus so we asked if she'd share her story (and photos!). Thank you Andrea!
Itâs been over ten years since the last time I pitched a tent, sat around a campfire and looked up at the stars. I wanted to go camping to unplug from technology and challenge myself to reconnect with nature. Luckily, camping makes it really easy!
In the weeks leading up to the trip I was completely out of my element. I didnât know how to prepare for sleeping outdoors. So I went an athletic gear stored and asked the folks in the camping section what to bring. âThe beautiful thing about camping is you donât really need anythingâ the sales associate said and went on to suggest the bare minimum, a tent and sleeping bag. Â Ahhhhh! An easy vacation that doesnât require a lot of money.
At the lake any fears that I had were squashed. My boyfriend and I were happy to discover tents are much easier to assemble then they were ten years ago. The serenity canceled out any fear of sleeping outdoors and the warmth of the campfire settled me into a sweet nostalgia. Â I felt comfortable, in my element and truly relaxed. Iâm already looking forward to the next camping trip!
