Favourite K-Pop Releases of July 2022
1. Ateez: Guerrilla
Title: I'll be honest, when I heard the teasers I was hesitant about whether I would like this song - so I was completely blown away by how much I loved it! This is a new sound for them and yet it fits in perfectly with their music, they embody this style so well. I've been wanting them to do something more rocky for a while already, and as expected they absolutely killed it.
Album: This might be their most cohesive album to date, all the songs go so well together, and I really like how on theme they are. "Cyberpunk" for me is an absolute stand-out b-side, my favourite song of the album and perhaps of their discography in general.
2. Purple Kiss: Nerdy
Title: It's fun, it's quirky and a little bit creepy - in my eyes perfect for Purple Kiss! Go Eun and Swan's vocals are beautiful as always, and I really like how much vocal layering there is. Yuki killed her raps as usual, but also Chaein and Ireh stood out to me a lot in this.
Album: Another banger album that I think might be their best on a whole up to date, as I enjoy all of the songs a lot. The stand-out b-side and overall favourite song of the month for me is "Love is Dead".
3. WJSN: Last Sequence
Title: The word that instantly comes to mind is "beautiful" - the song, the MV, and of course the members. I adore the mermaid theme, it suits them so well, and the song fits that image of being lured by sirens perfectly. Short, if I were a sailor and WJSN the sirens, I would have no chance of survival.
Album: Since it's only a Single album there is not much to say, but "Done" is one of my top 5 songs of the month for sure, the chorus is incredibly catchy.
