And once more, God shits in his dinner.
A simple peaceful evening seemed to much too ask, just wander to the nearest town, find a tavern, get some food and beer in his belly and hopefully a comfortable bed, then running out before first light before the innkeeper comes looking for payment. Instead, he's being set upon by night creatures.
It's nothing he can't handle, he's trained for years in different ways to hunt and kill monsters, it's what his family has done for generations. Hunt and kill and drown in their infamy. Time to put what he's learned into practice. Morningstar in one hand, short sword in the other. The first couple beasts go down easily, once the maul of the Morningstar touches a beast and causes it to burst in to flame, the display catches the attention of the others.
The hordes now turn their gaze on him instead of whatever it was that had their attention before. A woman, fallen in the forest, oddly dressed, with some kind of machine strapped to her arm and what appeared to be cards scattered on the ground.
At first he had considered rushing in and taking the remaining creatures head-on, but experience teaches him to do better, use the environments to his advantage. They're in a forest, makes the fliers have limited mobility, and with so many trees to hide behind, makes line of sight even harder. They pursue him into the trees, and begins taking advantage of his surroundings. The ones that get caught in the branches become easy pickings for his flail and blade. The little ones jump on him, trying to claw at him, rend his flesh, tear his sleeve, bit down on his arm, little fuckers actually bite him. He rushes towards a particularly large tree and throws himself against the trunk, winding the little gremlin and causing them to loose their hold, it's once the thing reaches the ground that Trevor sends his boot into its mouth and sends it flying, where he whips it out of the sky with the Morningstar.
Monsters sufficiently killed, and his shirt now in tatters or soiled in gore, he lets out a sigh and puts his weapons away, heading back to the area where he found the woman on the ground. He checks her for injuries first, then notices the cards on the ground. He can't read the text, but at least the pictures are nice. Possibly some kind of tarot cards? Maybe the woman was a fortune-teller.
Regardless, looked as though he would be getting a room for two tonight, can't just leave her here.
