Stocking Hats and bad haircuts.
I publicly share comments on my observations. My wife says I need to keep my thoughts to myself in public. Like today, we stopped in at a new Thrift Store. While I was walking by a rack of items, a couple of ladies were checking out a bowling ball in the sporting goods section. I blurted out how hard it is to find a good bowling ball at thrift stores. I got a nasty look from that comment. Sure, I make shoot-from-the-hip comments, but I’m just a friendly person. Think about it, how many times have you gone to a thrift store and brought home a bowling ball? Let’s say never. I did get a slight lecture from my daughter recently about perhaps I should think about some things before I share them with her boys. I asked her what she was talking about. She said, “Okay, Dad, did you tell the boys that people who wear stocking caps are usually wearing them to hide bad haircuts?” I vaguely remembered making a comment like that. My daughter explained how her kids shared that knowledge at school, and the kids on the playground made comments to those wearing stocking caps during recess. I had to laugh at that, but then my daughter went on to say that the teacher traced it back to my grandsons, and she heard about it when she picked the kids up the other day. So I’m the bad guy because my grandsons tattled on me. Yep, she said: They sold you out in a New York Minute. I can’t believe my own family would turn on me so quickly. I have some interesting information about Global Warming. I know they would have enjoyed hearing it, but I might just sit on it for a while. It has to do with birds shrinking. I don’t want to tell you what that means to the Tennessee Warbler. Not Good!

Snow days vs. e-learning
As last weekend's storm bore down on the Midwest, I asked my grandsons, who lives near Indianapolis, if they were doing their snow dance in hopes of a day off school.
That's when I learned a sad fact: "Snow days". Those precious, out-of-the-blue gifts from the snow gods no longer exist, at least not in their district.
When weather conditions make travel dangerous, the kids must embrace the bane of their existence: e-learning.
Don't get me wrong; I'm all for learning. But an unexpected goof-off day is good for the soul.
