Every time I leave the hospital I know it may be the last time I’ll be able to hold his hand, hug him, and say I love you. Recently, he has only been awake less and less. Today he was only awake for a few seconds, a couple of times but he said “i love you dear . " 😢. The other day I played him some music and we were singing together and he was enjoying it. Today he never really woke up. I know he will be gone soon, but it’s so hard to accept. It’s even harder with dementia because I’ve been grieving for so long and it will be even worse when he’s gone. Dementia means watching someone slowly lose parts of themselves, get frustrated not being able to find words or remember things, etc. . I am grateful I’ve had so much time with him but I’ll never be ready. 😢
So, as with the last two years, I really wanted to make a strip referencing that the earliest version of BETTY BOOP has entered the public domain. No, not to make a crappy slasher flick, but as a bit of fun commentary on the cultural trend to leap on such things. I had NO ideas, and said as much on my Facebook wall. Enter, Eric Costello. The awesome writer of my guest run on DICK TRACY, Eric, mentioned that he had an idea, and I gave him the go-ahead to write it up, and here we are! I think this is only the SECOND time anyone else has written a "Finding Dee" strip that I've drawn, and it was a LOT of fun. I LOVE working with guest writers and guest artists, FYI! (Hint, Hint!)
