That pretty much sums it all up for me for the past week! I have been a little more social than usual, as many of my former coursemates were in town for their graduation ceremony (if you're new here: I took a year off, so they've graduated without me). It was lovely seeing them and catching up, but also somewhat bittersweet as I see them moving into new chapters of their lives and I am still in university. I guess I am trying to remain positive by reminding myself that each of us have our own timeline, and that I am exactly were I am meant to be.

In terms of studying, I have been keeping up.

Yesterday I went to the library and wrote the reading report I have to turn in for my State & Society in the Late Ottoman Empire class. It isn't due in another couple of weeks but I really wanted to get it out of the way. I am trying to put more time and effort into my German, but I definitely do not enjoy the kind of homework we are being given and therefore it is hard to be consistent. We have a take-home exam coming up in 3 weeks tho, so I better stay focused! And for a final update: my thesis is slowly coming along, my supervisor has advised me to try and get a few hundred words down every day, so that at a later stage I will "only" need to organize and rearrange my writing to fit the final structure.

Jake is finally graduating from the Academy and is about to make the first steps in starting his future with Jolene.

It was their second anniversary already, and Jake was starting to feel nervous. Jo was the only woman who could make him nervous. It was also graduation, he and Javy were finally about to graduate from the Naval Academy, and Jo was proudly in the audience with his family. His Memaw was proudly grinning at him as she waved. But it was Jo that had his attention. She wore a beautiful light blue dress with tiny flowers. He couldn’t help but smile as he saw her grinning at him. He gave her a wink and grinned as he saw her blushing.

“Today is the day, Javy.” He said as he looked at his friend, who was smiling at him and replied with an about damn time.

The ceremony was complete, and he quickly went to find Jo and his family. He heard his Memaw’s voice and nearly sprinted when he saw Jo. She let out an excited squeal as she ran toward him and jumped into his open arms. Spinning her around, he kissed her, and when his fellow Navy graduates cheered, she blushed again.

“You look so beautiful, especially when you blush, darlin’.” He smiled as he gently put her back on her feet with another soft kiss. He could hear his mother huffing in frustration. She despised Jolene and kept telling him to find a better woman, like his high school girlfriend, Annabelle Larson. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small navy blue box he had been carrying for months. With a grin, he got down on one knee and opened the box. Jolene gasped as she saw the platinum ring with a beautiful one-carat oval diamond with two horizontal baguets on each side.

“Jolene, I’ve never felt like this for a girl before. Will you take my name, my days, my nights, every day of my life, my everything, and make it yours? Baby, take it all. Hell, you are my everything already. I don’t ever want them back. Will you please make me the luckiest man in the universe and marry me?” The sight of him in his uniform proposing had her speechless. He could hear his mother screeching, and he heard a loud gasp. But he was more concerned about the woman he had just proposed to.

“Jake…I…oh my god, baby, you didn’t need a fancy ring…you could’ve proposed with a ring pop…but yes…yes…a million times yes!” She said with tears as he slid the ring on and raised to his feet to kiss his fiancée.

“NO! NO, NO, NO!” His mother screeched as he turned toward his family, holding Jo’s hand with a grin.

“Congratulations Jakey, and welcome to the family, officially Jolene.” His Memaw said as she strutted past Jake’s mother, who was fuming. The older woman hugged Jolene with a smile and turned to look at a blonde woman who was watching in horror at the sight before her. “I always knew my Jakey would find the perfect woman.” She said with a smirk as she looked toward the blonde woman. Jolene turned in confusion and saw a familiar woman who looked like she was about to be sick.

“Um…why is she here?” Jolene asked as she turned to Jake, who looked like he saw a ghost.

“Annabelle? What are you doing here?” The girl looked at Jake and then toward his mother before storming off. He turned to glare at his mother, who was gaping like a fish out of water. He should’ve known his mother would invite Annabelle. She had been trying to get the two back together since they broke up. Even though he had introduced Jo to the family as his girlfriend two years ago. Annabelle had been exactly what his mother wanted for him. Tall, skinny, blonde, and willing to be his mother’s lackey. Annabelle was a nightmare. She would always complain and practically throw a tantrum if things didn’t go her way. But Jolene was the complete opposite. She was shorter, curvier, had bright red hair, and rarely complained. She worked out her problems without a tantrum. While Annabelle was selfish, Jo put others first. Her smile could light up the room, and he vowed from the first moment he saw it to do whatever it took to keep her smiling.

Jake was more than happy to finally get to live with Jo. He had lived on the Naval Academy campus for the last four years. She had a small one-bedroom apartment that the two had been slowly decorating together for this moment. The moment the two walked through the door, he scooped her into his arms with a grin and carried her to their now-shared bedroom.

“Can’t wait to make you my wife, darlin’.” He grinned as she shivered at the word darlin’. Without fail, every time he saw her eyes light up, and she would bite her lip. He gently set her down.

“I got you a graduation present. I figured you might not want to open it in front of your family.” He sat down and looked at her with a raised brow as he opened the blue-wrapped gift. She bit her lip as he looked at the unassuming book in his hands, but when he opened it, he squeaked.

“Fuck, Jo….” He was practically drooling over the book filled with Jolene in various pinup poses. When he turned to one page of her in his khaki uniform button-up, the buttons were undone to her navel, just barely covering her breasts. She was sitting on her knees, her back slightly arched, and her hands resting in front of her.

“Do you like them? “JAKE!” She gasped as he trailed kisses along her neck and jaw and nipped at the pulse point where the two met.

“Sweetheart, I am the luckiest man in the fucking universe.” He said with a smirk as he slid a hand under her light blue sundress. She bit her lip as she tugged on his uniform shirt, as he gave her a knowing look.

He quickly unbuttoned his shirt, pulled it off along with his white undershirt, and threw them behind him. She hummed happily as her fingers brushed against his chest, and her nails gently dragged against his skin, making him let out a soft moan.

“Tell me what you want, darlin’.” He made sure to let his Texan drawl slip out when he called her darlin’. It was like kryptonite to her.

“I need you…please, Jake.” With a grin, he gripped her hips and rolled them so she was on top. She looked down at him with doe eyes.
