Francisco de Goya
Francisco de Goya
I feel things about the fact that Francisco de Goya's "Black Paintings" where never meant to be seen. He painted them for himself, throwing his fear of death and madness directly into the plastered walls, and never talked about them.
His most famous work was never meant to be seen. Like all of the black paintings, "Saturn devouring his son" didn't have a title. It is a dreadful scene of a giant with crazed eyes staring at the viewer while eating a man. How could it ever have been displayed in a museum if not for a title linking it to Greek mythology?
Someone's private dispare, painted truthfully, with no fear of the eye of the public, is now on the wall of the biggest museum of Madrid.
So yeah. Those are some feelings I'll never quite understand.

Fourteen Paintings for No One: The Most Somber Art Ever Made Sad art is everywhere, and it comes cheap. Somber art is rare, because somber means sorrow that keeps its shape after the tears dry, sorrow with gravity, no laugh track, no lifeline.... https://bolesblogs.com/2026/08/04/fourteen-paintings-for-no-one-the-most-somber-art-ever-made/
