Christmas with the Goths In their castle on the hill The Goths strike languid poses While the mother with great skill Arranges Christmas roses She likes the bright touch of red Around their Christmas coffin Lined with lace of fine black thread A kind you don’t see often It’s the centerpiece tonight Of their holiday table Surrounded by pewter plates And napkins made of sable Sitting down, pale and sickly Their family feast is grand With burgundy poured thickly And mutton chewy yet bland As the festive silence grows You can hear chill winds blowing The hearth crackles and it glows In the churchyard it’s snowing The children are behaving Fearing what is for dessert The aunts and uncles craving But for what none dare assert After dinner retreating To the parlor for a time Until they’re heard repeating Oh my my is that the time? Uncles and aunts say goodbye The children get cheek pinches Christmas joy makes parents sigh While the kids scowl like grinches Father sends the kids to bed They complain it’s too early Though they do what he has said The looks they give are surly Out comes the wrapping paper It’s gray as fits the season Mother and father’s caper Help Santa is their reason A toy hearse for their daughter Black nail polish for their son Explosives, wire and solder To make Christmas extra fun Finishing up the wrapping With ribbons of satin black There’s no time left for napping Down the stairs they’re coming back!
