Oooooh. I really had to think about this for a minute. Ultimately, I think either Bela or Gordon. Bela might be too easy of an answer, honestly. She's not a terrible person, just a desperate one. There was a lot of nuance there that could have been explored, and after Cas is the one person I'd have loved to see Dean hook up with most. I loved her snark and sass, and I think she could have made a good ally eventually, before of course dying tragically and heroically to save an innocent child, bringing her full circle to how she herself as a child needed saving. (Become the adult that young you needed in your life and all.) Gordon on the other hand. HOO BOY. That would have taken WORK that I'm honestly not sure the SPN writers were up to. It would have been so satisfying to see him realize he was wrong and change his ways. Not fully losing the unhinged intensity that made me hate the guy, but redirecting it and TRYING really HARD, goddamn it. Like a Faith from Buffy turn, but less "Oh look, I cried about it and now I'm healed", and more "We're trying to make art from a pile of garbage here, so squint and see the beauty in the mess". Like an abused junkyard dog adopted by a well-meaning white woman, he'd still be dangerous, but with the leash in the right hands he could be directed appropriately.
