The Number Everyone Trusts Is Already Old
I keep seeing the same mistake in SEO content — someone opens a keyword tool, sees a big number, and starts writing, without ever asking if that number is going up or down.
That number is always a little bit in the past. It tells you what happened last month. It says nothing about where things are heading.
Google Trends is the free, weirdly underused tool that actually answers that question. Not exact volume — just direction. Rising, falling, flat. And direction is often the more useful signal when you're deciding what to write six weeks from now, not summarizing what already happened.
The trick almost nobody uses: type your keyword in, open "Related Queries," switch from "Top" to "Rising." Suddenly you're looking at what's gaining traction right now, before it shows up anywhere else. (Careful with "Breakout" labels though — that just means a spike from a tiny base, not automatic proof of demand.)
There's also this whole seasonal layer — searches that predictably spike around exam results or festivals every year. Publish 8-10 weeks before the historical peak, not during it, and you're writing into rising demand instead of screaming into an already-crowded space.
Impact Digital Marketing Institute uses this exact combination — Trends plus Search Console — in their practical SEO sessions, which is honestly a more useful habit than most keyword courses teach.
