Gonzap, too, has felt personally victimized by Nascour.
There had been a time when Gonzap was a proud gangster, leading his team as he saw fit.Â
Nowadays things were different; he had been reduced to Cipher's dog. A dog that played fetch with stolen PokĂŠmon and attacked when its master commanded.Â
(Nascour even made him call him master. He took pleasure in rubbing it in, Gonzap suspected.)
And the worst thing was that Gonzap had no choice. Cipher was stronger. If Team Snagem tried fighting again, they would be wiped out; Nascour had promised him as much.Â
Maybe one day the good times would come back, Gonzap hoped.Â
Best PokĂŠmon Villains Tournament- Individuals Bracket- Round 1: Match 14
Gonzap vs Shelly
Gonzap
Shelly
Voting ended onFeb 22, 2025
....I'm sorry but this is a very funny pair of pictures next to one another.
Well, that aside, Gonzap, head of Team Snagem, has possibly the best facial hair in this competition and the muscles to match! Another big personality from the Orre region, he's the gang of the PokĂŠmon thieves of Team Snagem, a gang that developed the technology to catch PokĂŠmon already caught by other trainers- truly villainous! But that's not all, he was actively working with Cipher in their original Shadow PokĂŠmon scheme, and being one of the final battles against the player in that game- with a team full of beefy beasts! Later on, in XD: Gale of Darkness, he teams up with the player against his former associates after they left him on the wayside. Gonzap's biggest battle strategy is simple- Hyper Beam everything! This includes even using a Skarmory that shouldn't know it- more illegality it seems! Can this man of muscle snag your heart?
Standing in his way is Shelly, admin of Team Aqua! The brains of the organisation, she used to work for the Devon Corporation, and that connection gave Team Aqua access to much of their research. She works closely alongside Archie to fulfill her goals, and gets in the player's way multiple times, proving a proficient battler with a forceful personality. Despite that, her smarts come through in the end, as she tries to convince Archie not to awaken Kyogre after all- but too late. Shelly's presence is felt throughout Sapphire and its remake, though with a drastic redesign in the latter, having originally been a redhead! With brains, beauty, and brawn, she's got it all, and is that enough to win this match?
I was definitely looking forward to this week's prompt: Gala! Specifically a gala at Realgam Tower!
This scene is intended to take place in my actual story project, PokĂŠmon Colosseum Redux, a novelization of the game! It may get some tweaks once I actually integrate it into the fanfiction proper, but I'm happy with how it turned out!
Context is that Wes and Rui are ready to confront Cipher at Realgam Tower, but before the Colosseum tournament, there's a grand gala to celebrate the opening of the tower! They're forced to attend, and thus forced to interact with everyone they've been fighting against...
Turned out a lot longer than I intended, but it was just tooooo fun to think up outfits for everyone and describe them! Enjoy!
Oh no⌠oh no oh no ohâ
Rui stood in the center of the reception hall, trembling and wringing her hands together, trying not to panic as she turned in a slow circle and scanned all the well-dressed people surrounding her. Then she closed her eyes and tried to focus her abilities, to feel for the familiar and comforting aura that she knew to be Wesâs. He couldnât have gotten too far, rightâŚ?
But instead, she felt heavy footsteps, even through the marbled floor, and when she opened her eyes, her heart leapt into her chest with terror. For strolling her wayâor attempting to stroll, best as his giant, barrel-chested frame could manage in such a dense crowdâwas Gonzap, in too-wide black slacks and a red button up that seemed to be straining at the seams over his muscled chest and arms.
Rui backed away, but her heels wobbled under her, and by the time she caught her balance, the Team Snagem leader was looming over her.
âWell, well,â he rumbled, his antennae-like mustache twitching along with his lips into a sneer. âWhereâs your knight in shining armor? I was hopinâ to say hi to him tonight.â
She swallowed once, twice, trying to force back the panic rising in her. âHeâs around,â she mumbled, trying to look for an opening and make a break for it. âIf youâll excuse meâŚâ
Gonzap chuckled, taking another step into her personal space. âHey, whatâs the rush? You know Wes and me go way back, right? Might as well get a chance to know each other better!â And before Rui could make a protest, he reached out with a hand that looked like it could snap her tiny arm in twoâŚ
âMaster Gonzap.â
As the Snagem Head froze, Rui felt another presence suddenly at her sideâdark, ominous, but something cold and breezy as wellâand her arm was swiftly taken and looped through another. She looked up in shock, to see a tall man with long pale hair casually standing at her side. He was dressed in a pristine silver suit, trimmed with black with a blue cravat at his neck. And though flooded with relief that she no longer had to deal with Gonzap alone, Rui knew she was not out of the woods yet.
Gonzap scowled, his long eyebrows drooping with his displeasure. âMaster Nascour,â he growled, low yet cautiously polite.
Nascour smiled thinly, placing a hand over Ruiâs where her arm was hooked through his. Both a protective gesture, and a sort of⌠possessive one, too. She wasnât free to go anywhere just yet. âI hope youâre having a good evening,â he intoned, voice pleasant yet somehow threatening as well. âHave you stopped by the appetizer table yet? Some of the finest delicacies from Kalos, Iâm told.â
âI havenât,â Gonzap muttered, eyes flickering from Rui to Nascour and back again. Then he finally took a step back, rolling his shoulders uncomfortably in his shirt. âMaybe I will, though. And drinks are free too, right?â
âNaturally.â
Gonzap shot Rui one last dirty look, before lumbering off in the directions of the refreshments. âI need to speak to you before the end of the night,â he said, in an attempt to sound assertive again, âbut later, I guessâŚâ
Nascour inclined his head graciously at the retreating Snagem leaderâs back. âOf course,â he acknowledged. But as soon as Gonzap was out of earshot, he made some kind of irritated exhale. âI hope that dreadful man didnât disturb you too much, my dear.â
Rui shook her head, though her thoughts were elsewhere. She remembered Nascour, but even if she didnât, she certainly knew of him. She and Wes had crossed paths with him briefly in Phenac City. And then, just like now, she felt paralyzed by his dreadful aura. It was nearly identical to the Shadow PokĂŠmon aura, but much more complex, difficult to make sense of⌠and more ominous. She never specifically felt like a Shadow PokĂŠmon meant to do her harm, even if she knew it was more volatile and dangerous. But Nascour felt threatening.
The Cipher executive smiled thinly, before he gently led her in some direction through the crowd. âI donât believe weâve officially introduced ourselves,â he remarked casually, âthough I am well aware of you, of course. Rui Shizuko, isnât it? The lovely and rather persistent thorn in our sides. Try as my employees might, you seem to have evaded them all thus far. At least, with the aid of your dashing companion.â
Swallowing, Rui finally mustered the courage to speak. âW-What are you going to do with me?â she asked. âWes wonât let you get away withââ
âOh, do relax, my dear. I am not interested in anything more than getting to know you a little better,â Nascour chuckled. âAfter all, I have you and Mr. Harkoven right where I want you. Thereâs no need for a fight.â
Rui frowned, but realized maybe he had a point. They were already at Realgam Tower, and if Nascour wanted to harm them, he could have easily done it by now. Perhaps she really was safe⌠at least for the time being. ââŚYouâre Nascour,â she mumbled, finally looking up at him. âI guess youâre the big boss here, huh?â
Nascour hummed in acknowledgement and looked down at her. âI suppose you could say that. Nascour Breaire⌠chief executive officer of Team Cipher. It is a pleasure to finally make your formal acquaintance.â
His mouth curled into a thin, amused smile as he paused to take in Ruiâs appearance. Her usual red pigtails were gone, and her long hair now fell in carefully curated curls around her face. Her royal blue dress looked like something more suitable for a high school prom rather than a high-rolling gala, but was pretty nonethelessâa strapless gown with intricate sparkling beads patterned across the front, and a fluffy tulle skirt.
âYouâre quite radiant tonight,â he offered, unlooping her arm from his so he could lift her hand to his lips in a brief kiss. âBut I feel you already knew that. Iâm sure your companion is a gracious and complimentary gentleman, despite his background.â
Rui made a face and pulled her hand away, wrapping her arms protectively around herself. âSpeaking of which, where is he? You better not be trying to distract me with⌠with⌠charming and polite stuff while you kidnap him or something.â
Nascour laughed at that, seeming genuinely amused. âNot at all,â he assured, still chuckling. âThough I suppose that means you find me charming?â
âW-What?! That is not what Iââ
âMaster Nascour?â
The soft voice, almost drowned out by the noise and bustle of the crowd around them, made Nascour pause and look up. Rui followed his gaze to see a tall, beautiful woman with long hair pinned in a bun, red but in a much darker shade than Ruiâs. In contrast to her usual revealing attire, Kimberly wore a modest, almost vintage looking maxi dress that ended just below her knees, with a modest neckline and short puffed sleeves. Her matching red pumps gave her even more height, and she looked almost taller than Nascour. Her dark eyeliner and bright red lipstick only added to the striking look, and also made her look much more mature and proper.
The aura around Nascour faded noticeably, if not completely. Rui caught a brief glimpse of something soft in the Cipher executiveâs expression as he regarded his direct subordinate. Then he smiled, bowing his head politely. âDarling, there you are,â he greeted. âI have a favor to ask.â
Kimberly folded her hands in front of her. âOf course, sir. What is it?â
âThe lovely young lady here has misplaced her companion. Perhaps you could locate him for her? Iâm sure youâre quite familiar with Mr. Wesley Harkoven.â
Brown eyes darted to Rui, but Kimberlyâs expression never changed. âIt would be my pleasure.â She inclined her head briefly to Rui, before turning and heading off into the crowd.
âThere, you see? I do not wish you to remain separated from your friend any longer than necessary.â Nascour took Ruiâs arm again, though she didnât resist, somehow realizing she really didnât have a choice in the matter anyway. âUntil my dear Miss Kimberly finds him, however, I insist you remain close. For your safety and comfort.â
Rui narrowed her eyes but followed along anyway. âDefinitely feel safe and comfortable like thisâŚâ she muttered.
Nascour smirked slightly to himself, but didnât otherwise react.
The two made a slow, lazy circuit of the reception hall, before he led her through an open door into what looked like a ballroom. Guests with drinks or food plates in their hands gathered at the edges of a dance floor as they chatted; those in the center of the floor were obviously several drinks into their evening already and dancing energetically, screaming and laughing with delight as some popular dance song blasted over the speakers. Nascour smoothly avoided the dance floor and sidestepped the crowds until they could get closer to the front of the room. Rui winced at the thudding bass, and Nascour paused several feet away, gesturing toward the rather conspicuous DJ having a grand time. As soon as Miror B. noticed his boss waving to him, he gave a beaming grin and pushed a button, letting the song play on while he moved to greet him.
âWell HEY!â he exclaimed, loud and excited. âIf it isnât Master Nascour! And the little lady who didnât want to hang with me in Pyrite! What a shame, what a shame!â
Nascour smiled politely and led the three of them further away, where they could speak without being drowned out completely by the music. âAll in past now, Master Miror B.,â he assured. âMiss Shizuko and Mr. Harkoven are our guests tonight.â
Miror B. smiled, his eyes obscured behind a large pair of sparkling silver shades that matched his glittering disco suit, which looked like the wearable version of a disco ball itself. Long strands flowed off the forearms of his sleeves, which fluttered around every time he gestured dramatically. âOhhhh how wonderful!â he exclaimed, looking down at the much shorter Rui. âIt is quite the party, isnât it? How gracious of Master Nascour to let you enjoy the fun, too!â
âIndeed. After all, Realgam Tower is a testament to what our team aspires to, a shining spotlight on everything we have to offer.â Nascour smiled darkly, and Rui could feel his aura darken once more. âIf the worldâs most powerful men and women are allowed to see our power and might, surely we can afford our⌠rivals⌠the same luxury.â
Miror B. chuckled, though he sounded a little less enthusiastic. He glanced over his glasses toward Rui with an expression almost akin to sympathy. âRight you are, Master Nascour! Clever as always. Thatâs why youâre the boss!â He took a step back, bowing deeply and forcing Rui to duck away, as his afro swept the space in front of him. âEnjoy the party, little lady! If youâll excuse me, I need to get back to my DJ duties!â
With a nod of acknowledgment, Nascour gently tugged Rui away and out of the ballroom. She felt relieved once the thumping music faded to a much more manageable sound behind her. They walked past a busy bar and a refreshment table piled high with snacks, and Rui ducked her head as they noticed Gonzap stuffing his face in a corner.
âUncouth man,â Nascour muttered, as if Ruiâs discomfort was quite obvious. âPerhaps weââ
âOh! Oh Master Nascour! Over here!â
Rui practically cringed as Venusâs familiar, faux-sweet voice lilted through the air, and Nascour stopped. He turned toward Venus and watched as she half-led, half-dragged Ein through the crowd, waving to him excitedly.
âYou look positively dashing tonight, Master Nascour!â she exclaimed brightly, clutching his free arm. Then she seemed to notice Rui holding onto Nascourâs other arm, and her expression darkened considerably. âOh! Whatâs thisâŚ? Sir, you let her into our party? But whyyyy?!â
Nascour maintained his polite demeanor, even with Venus practically bruising his right arm. He pushed Rui behind him, as if trying to keep distance between the two women. âMy radiant Lady Venus,â he began, in a placating tone that made Ein noticeably scowl next to them, ânow is not the time to be getting upset. You should be having fun, and if our guests wish to have fun also⌠I see no need to cause a fuss.â He paused for a moment, his eyes shifting between Ein and Venus. âYou look breathtaking, my dear. And perhaps the same may be said for you, Master Ein.â
Ein glowered at the sentiment. âIâd appreciate if you didnât mock me, Master Nascour,â he grumbled. But even Rui had to admit, he looked somewhat dashing in his outfit, even if completely uncomfortable. He wore a deep grey, high-collared blazer over a matching set of slacks, fully buttoned as if to hide everything. His left arm was still in a sling; the memories of the events in the Shadow PokĂŠmon Lab made Rui wince and look away uncomfortably. Fortunately, Ein didnât seem particularly concerned with her presence.
Nascour chuckled. âNot at all, Master Ein.â
Venus seemed pleased at Nascourâs assessment of her outfit, something just as bright and eye-catching as the dress Rui had seen on her before. Tonight, she chose to wear a bold flamenco dress, long and form-fitting with long sleeves and numerous ruffles that billowed over the ground behind her. Her brown hair was placed up in a braided bun with matching pink flowers, and she swished her dress around as if to show off. âYou really like it, sir?â she asked, eyes wide with admiration.
âI love it, my lady. You are always a sight.â
Ein rolled his eyes, but didnât seem entirely offended when Venus returned to his side and clamped on to his uninjured arm. âDid something happen to the gallant young hero of Orre?â he questioned casually, his attention finally turning to Rui. His gaze was stern through his dark glasses, though not especially hostile. Rui timidly looked up at him and nodded a greeting.
âNot at all. Iâm merely keeping the young lady company until we find him again,â Nascour explained.
Venus seemed slightly annoyed by this explanation, but she laughed all the same. âAlways the pinnacle of gentlemanliness,â she teased.
Nascour nodded, already pulling Rui closer as he prepared to stride off again. âI am nothing without my⌠gentlemanliness,â he quipped, reaching out to Venus graciously. She placed her hand in his automatically, as if this were ritual by now, and he kissed it gently. âI hope to speak with you again later before the evening is out.â
Venus beamed, seeming in high spirits once more. âOf course, sir! We look forward to it!â
Ein made some kind of sound of acknowledgment, before he was dragged off by Venus once again.
Nascour patted Ruiâs arm gently, guiding her through the crowd yet again. His eyes swept the crowds as they walked along, and his voice was a soft yet pleasant purr. âYou see? My associates and I⌠we can be pleasant company,â he said. âYou are more than welcome to share in that⌠if you cooperate.â
Rui felt her heart pounding again, but she also felt emboldened by having Nascourâs company for the last several minutes. He wouldnât cause a scene now, right? âIf youâre trying to get me or Wes to stop what weâre doing⌠forget it,â she growled, in a low tone only he could hear. âBeing polite doesnât make up for all the PokĂŠmon youâve stolen and turned to Shadow. All the people youâve hurt and threatened.â
Nascourâs eyes narrowed, a glint of red appearing so briefly Rui almost thought sheâd imagined it. But the aura around him flared, something not quite angry but almost frustrated, and she knew she wasnât imagining things. âI am being polite because it is far more preferable to my other methods,â he intoned darkly, the threat clear in his voice. âAnd my Kimberly would be ever so heartbroken if I was pushed to more extreme methods. Donât make me upset her.â
Ruiâs eyebrows raised in surprise, but before she could respond, Nascour stopped and he gestured to their left. âAh, speaking of which⌠there she is now.â
Several feet away, Rui saw Kimberly again, and her heart fluttered in excitement when she saw the woman was talking to Wes. In contrast to his usual dark clothing, he cut a very different and impressive figure in an outfit of all whiteâhe wore a long white coat with the collar folded down, a white button up, white jeans with a casual fit, even white boots. It made him look positively tan in comparison, and his dirty-blond hair look much darker than usual. His brow was furrowed as he and Kimberly spoke in low voices to each other, but as Nascour and Rui approached, he looked up, and his expression softenedâbut only slightly.
Nascour bowed deeply to Wes, before releasing Ruiâs arm and coaxing her back to her friend. âThere he is. We were worried weâd lost you.â
Rui quickly returned to Wesâs side, squeezing his hand tightly. Wes squeezed it back and studied Nascour dubiously. âSo I heard. But I figured Kimberly wouldnât lie when she said youâd bring her back soon enough,â he muttered gruffly.
Nascour chuckled and held out his hand. âIt is quite the honor to officially meet you, Mr. Harkoven,â he said, his eyes dancing with small flecks of red even as he smiled. âI told you that weâd see each other again somewhere, and so we have. Nascour Breaire⌠chief executive officer of Team Cipher and your host for the evening. I do hope you and your lady friend are having a pleasant time.â
Wes stared at Nascourâs hand with a look almost akin to disgust, but he swallowed his reservations back and shook firmly. âIâve had worse,â he replied.
Kimberly glanced at Wes one more time before she moved to stand alongside Nascour, and he took her arm gently. He never stopped smiling at both Wes and Rui. âSuch a charming pair,â he observed. âAm I to assume Miss Kimberly has not swayed your position on where we stand?â
A scoff escaped Wes as he shook his head, almost immediately. âNot a chance in hell.â
âHm. A pity.â
Suddenly⌠what seemed like a dark shadow seemed to fall across all four of them, and everyone turnedâand craned their necks upâto see Dakim, practically blotting out the overhead lights as he towered over all of them. To Ruiâs surprise, the giant man looked rather clean-cut and nearly civilized in a standard three-piece suit, black jacket over a white vest over a black button up and tie. His slacks and dress shoes were well-sized, and even his large mess of red hair had somehow been tamed into a spiky but tidy style, too. In fact, he almost looked normal, save for the red markings still painted across his face, and the fact that this suit would look absolutely absurd if one were to see it on the hanger.
âMaster Nascour,â Dakim spoke, voice low and respectful, his eyes only briefly glancing in Wes and Ruiâs direction. âMight I have a moment of your time, in private? It is⌠somewhat urgent.â
Nascour raised an eyebrow with mild surprise, before he nodded and patted Kimberlyâs hand. âAh, of course, Master Dakim.â He looked down at Wes and Rui once again, a cold smile twitching upon his lips. âPlease excuse me⌠and please, enjoy the festivities. Tonight is a night to indulge. But make no mistakeâŚâ
He turned with Kimberly on his arm, striding off, but his voice lingering ever ominous in his wake.
ââŚYou had best reconsider your position by tomorrow, or my graciousness will not be extended. You are in our territory now. And this will be resolved⌠one way or another.â
(PS: I am not, and never will be ashamed of how much I enjoy writing my Nascour. <3)
For those uninitiated, Kimberly is my Cipher Peon OC who works for Nascour!
âUhehe. Well, surprise, surprise. We do have a lot to do with this, missy. We were just thieves before we got hold of the Snag Machines. And where did we get them? From Cipher. What they wanted was this: Go Snag superior-grade PokĂŠmon from trainers everywhere!â
More Colosseum art with Gonzap! Man, the Orre games really did a lot with varying the human character designs at a time when the series really needed it, especially when it came to body shapes. If a character like Gonzap had been introduced in an officially-counted-as-such main series game, I doubt he'd be so...exaggerated, I guess is the best word, and that's a damn shame tbh. And hey, we got the first actual Shadow Pokemon in this series based on one of the games featuring Shadow Pokemon! Wow! Took long enough! Why didn't this happen sooner? Mostly cuz the previous three had the Legendary Beasts and I'd already drawn then, and as for Miror B's Sudowoodo...well, it doesn't really feel like his, not to mention we all know someone who "trulee" needs to have it more, but that'll be a loooooong time from now... XD

Legends Orre Gonzap ancestor sees Gonzapâs vest and decides to put it on tits out and all and Gonzapâs in the background screaming âNANA NO DONâT WEAR THATâ
