The landmark 10-minute version of The Stone Roses’ “Fools Gold”—and on colored vinyl no less at a time when US record companies never went near the stuff (1990). The band never had the impact or musical influence here that it did in the UK, but we swayed to this song’s trance-like shuffle regardless. It is, if you will, a stone cold classic. 


I found this sweet, sweet 10-minute mix of The Stone Roses’ hypnotic, tripped-out dance classic, “Fools Gold”—and it was sealed! Given the band’s collectibility, I probably shouldn’t have opened it, but records are meant to be played and I’d wanted a copy of it for a long time. The upside of opening a long-sealed record, of course, is that it is scratch- and dust-free. Oddly, it didn’t smell like a rose; the sleeve had that slightly musty basement scent even though it had been closed up for 30 years. Go figure.

Merry Christmas! I was relishing the gold vinyl of a Christmas present—the new Simple Minds box set—this morning when my beloved snapped this shot. You’d think Charlie Burchill himself had stopped in. Have a lovely holiday everyone!

Found over the weekend—a vintage 1982 Canadian limited edition gold pressing of Simple Minds’ classic New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84). Looks much nicer than the better-known Gold/Purple US limited pressing from the same era.
