One of the things I love about the Moist von Lipwig books is that their titles are all present-tense verbs. That man is always doing something.

...journey in Going Postal is Moist lying to himself about how he's totally lying to himself, but one thing which jumped out to me recently as I was thinking about it. Compare his early response to getting Mr. Pump assigned to him, with his latter reaction to Anghammarad being demolished during the Post Office fire.
He starts out frantically thinking of possible ways to kill a golem, or at least throw it off his trail. He finishes up frantically suggesting if there's a way to heal a golem, or at least put some of it back together. No wonder that he grew at least a bit fond of them, though. By that point, even (perish the thought) without Dearheart, he'd have gotten somewhat attached to dusty old shells filled with ancient paper inside.
I've seen some interpretations putting it down to luck or something of the sort, but I like to think that the dogs listened to Moist (despite not being pure-bred Lipwigzers) because of his utter confidence and certainty - which is mentioned multiple times thoughout the book in regards to people, so why shouldn't it also work on dogs? Still understandable that Moist reacts as he does though because he was relying on specific commands he expected them to be trained to obey, but in reality all he actually had to rely on was his utter confidence that it would work (which probably wouldn't have worked if he hadn't been so certain that it would work for all the wrong reasons).
I wonder if Moist’s signature on paperwork is really inconsistent, to the point of making it nigh-impossible to actually authenticate, since he’s so used to foraging other people’s and using different handwritings for all of his different personas that he never really developed one that was really his. After all, until his “death”, he hadn’t gone by his own name since he was fourteen
