Theory Time: Bits and Scraps Edition
This may be quite the stretch, but I don't think that Marienna was a Tachonis.
Many people say that this is the reason that she and her daughter were killed or disappeared as she broke the rules of being in that House. However, this happened eight years ago, and what also happened eight years ago? The doors to Faerie closed.
We know that Thjazi and House Tachonis (not in tandem) had something to do with it, but this doesn't make sense until we take into consideration that in Episode 9, Tyranny innocently asks Kattigan a question: "Have you killed a fairy?"
He immediately pivots to a different topic and it's never touched on again. What on earth does that have to do with Faerie at all? Well, this conversation was in Timmony and Kattiagn was working there beforehand, and he's quite familiar with some aspect of Timmonish customs, including their dealings with the fair folk. So why is this important? Because the fair folk are also closely tied to House Royce.
So what the hell am I trying to say? There's not a lot of evidence, and Robbie insists on playing some of his cards closer to his chest, but I think there's something there. Both House Tachonis and House Halovar seem to be hellbent on ensuring that the fair folk are wiped clean off the board whether it be by wholesale slaughtering a House or by weaving anti-Faerie sentiment into their holy tenets, and given how Primus moved to purge them, what's to say he didn't start earlier eight years ago?
One more thing, Aranessa has a regret of some kind, of wanting to go with Thjazi and support him, but she chose her House over him. Maybe the reason why this is so poignant with her is because she watched someone else in her family do it first. And what family is going to bring up that kind of shame?
Would the other Houses even have known about this other Royce? The Royce family seems to have largely kept to themselves, given that they were out of the loop when House Tachonis came knocking.
And one more thing, who made Wulferic's paw? What kind of magical machination is it? I don't think a ranger is capable of it, but perhaps he was taught by someone who knew a great deal about it and would happily do so.
All of these threads, Faerie, the doors, Royce, Timmony, magic, why Primus went after her, and the game the Sundered Houses are playing are loose and not yet rendered, but they are there.
In summary, I think Marienna Royce rolls off the tongue a bit better than Marienna Tachonis.
