I personally headcanon that within the Minus One verse, sightings of Godzilla's ancestors are what inspired the Hōnengyo in Yokai Mythology.
The Yokai's coincidental resemblance to Godzie has already been noted irl, so why not have there be an actual connection between the two; in the universe where Godzilla's kind were an actual elusive species that Feudal Folk wouldn't be able to identify properly, and so they made myths and assumptions about them? Before Godzie himself mutated due to radiation, that is.

Honestly I really like Minus Zero Godzilla's design! He looks a bit less like Hesei Godzilla compared to how he looked in Minus One, if that makes any sense? Idk I always thought they were sorta vaguely similar. Also, totally agree on how odd the slimming down thing is. But whatever floats Toho's boat, I suppose! And GOSH I love those dorsal plates sm.
Also your drawing is AMAZING! Your artstyle genuinely is so cool dude :]
