The human dilemma is this: God is Holy and we are not. God is Righteous and we are not - R.C. Sproul.

But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, 15“Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them (Acts 14:14-15). This was Paul and Barnabas's reaction and response to the people in Athens who attempted to worship them. Yet, there are Christians who consider themselves as someone who deserves worship. Here is why.

Lies Behind The Little God Teaching

Verse twenty-seven is a controversial text. Because other people that consider themselves as Christians use this to sell the "little god" teaching. However, those who intensively study the scriptures and prays for the Holy Spirit for guidance understood that man and woman were created as man and woman, not as gods. 

These so-called teachers, who consider themselves Evangelical Christians, do not preach the correct context of this verse because they only want to elevate themselves. Moreover, when they teach this verse, they do not even include the succeeding text, male and female He created them. Why? Because of the fear that the LGBTQ+ community will hate them. Furthermore, this will create a decrease chance of having more audience.

The Creator Wants You To Consider Yourself As

Image-Bearers. That is what the Heavenly Father wants us to consider ourselves and others, but not as little gods. Each one of us has a God-given trait that is similar to that of our Creator. John MacArthur, in his commentary, wrote Man is a living being capable of embodying God's communicable attributes. In his rational life, he was like God in that he could reason and had intellect, will and emotion. 

Adam was the first man and during his creation, he was the closest resemblance to the Creator, good and sinless. And of course, we know that it did not last long. If our first parents did not disobey our Heavenly Father (Genesis 3), we can say that we could have been good and sinless. But that still does not mean we can consider ourselves as little gods for we mere creations of the Creator. Only Jesus Christ is both 100% God and 100% Man. Additionally, He took on the form of a man to save us from our sins and eternal damnation. Jesus Christ's death on the cross and resurrection is the saving grace of God the Father. For anyone who believes and has faith in Jesus Christ is saved (Accept Jesus Now).

Almighty God, our Father in heaven. We bring glory and honour to your name. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins (mention your sins). Grant us, Holy Spirit, the discernment of what is God’s will and not to guide our actions every day. May the word of God, that we ready daily, reprove our egos and teach us not to feel superior to others. Also, we pray that we will not think of ourselves highly for we know we are only created out of God's love. Instead, may the Holy Spirit give us boldness of the heart to tell others about our Master, Jesus Christ.
