Commission Posting time!
@dullgecko Commissioned a bunch of sketches from me of her concept for the original creatures from which Goblinoids were created in the Fae Wilds.
The idea is that The Lady of Air and Darkness created the first sentient and sapient Goblinoids from these little creatures running around that were like a monkey/cat/bat/marsupial mashup.
And then those little critters are still there running around when modern goblins kinda return to the Fae Wilds much later to re-establish the Goblin Court, and are basically like mischevious little shits that annoy everyone and they're looked on very fondly as ancestors.
This is all kinda within the Dimension20 Fantasy High & Court of Fey and Flowers universe, but also works for DnD settings outside of that.
Here though we have cameos from Riz Gukgak and our shared OC Dex (Yes he's doing the Jake Gyllenhaal ferret meme).
Also the Rock Wallaby reference was from our trip to the Australian Reptile Park last time she visited me in April (Rock wallabies are such a mood).
Anyway I am still open for commissions! I am happy to do any level of commission, feel free to message me here if you're interested.
Stew is best with bread. is there a bread goblin? or do you also make bread? or do you just make bread stew?
There is bread stew, and I occasionally make bread for my stew, but I am not the bread goblin
where are the crabs taking everything?
Too many of Dungeons and Dragons' great spellcasters, and thusly the spells named after them, are the greatly men and elves with regal or intimidating names. I believe the world of make believe could do with some little guys who create their convenient little spells. So I present to you the story of "Greeble's Aura of Torn Pockets" Greeble Bigbelly was the youngest of a 13 goblin litter, but he was far from the smallest. His mom swears he was only born last because he was stuck in there from being so large. Often left out of games and mealtimes because his littermates believed his size to be unnatural for any goblin to be, he had to take to books for entertainment and little cantrips to steal scraps of meals. While his size made him a poor hider and thief he found other ways to partake in his family trade of pick pocketing, simply reversing the mathematic equation on the mending spell to undo hems and stitches in pockets or saddlebags, he would eventually find a way to turn this spell into a short lasting aura that would cause many around him to simply drop their possessions for him to greedily grab up without having to be particularly stealthy.
I haven't actually put thought into level or school of the spell, the size or duration of effect, but I just want the silly game to be a little sillier.

More Goblin Lore? Let's get GOBBIN'
-Ozvald's favorite fruit was strawberries. which finding safe patches of them eat from was a rarity and a special treat back in the day. But now that he's living in the comfort with his fellow goblins under the service of Princess Diedre, he can have strawberries anytime he wants. He also likes peaches, but they're a bit messy and sticky for him to eat.
-The goblins used to sleep communally since the caves they lived in were rather cold, they sorta just.....
Cuddlin. Even now they live in a warm big castle home with central heating and their choice of spots to sleep in, it's not uncommon to see 4 or 5 of them cuddling in the midday sun for a nap.
-Ozvald doesn't ask to eat off Diedre's plate, he just sort of involuntarily leers over the table at whatever Diedre's eating like a hungry little dog begging for scraps. Diedre give him bites of dinner. Just so he has a little something something to eat. Make him think he's being helpful by taste testing her food.
-There aren't many women or children in the Goblin Clan. Mainly since the stress of the previous Bugbear leader resulted in people miscarrying and dying of stress based complications shortly after. They have a 'cleric' of sorts....up until the Bugbear crushed her skull because some medicine he was given tasted bad. This is the first time in YEARS that the goblins have been in a situation that they're comfortable enough to begin breeding successfully in.
-Ozvald is not a fan of horses. No goblin really is. Mainly because they're viewed as large clumsy creatures that are prone to kicking for no reason and bite and smell and have TERRIBLE personalities. Ozvald was bitten by a horse as a little Goblet when he and some other Goblets snuck onto a farm to steal horse feed to eat. (That's how bad things were getting. people were eating horse food.)
The Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth Lore Facts
Editorâs Note: âSome of the tales youâll encounter here may be rooted in canon, or they may be another traveler just telling a tall tale.âÂ
Eyes of the Earth Mother
Though the Earth Mother heard the whispers of the Old Gods, she could not be swayed by them (13).
Pregnant, the Earth Mother sought a place away from the Old Godsâ corruptive influence to give birth to her children. Unable to find such a place, however, she decided to shape the world and, in doing so, create her own safe haven (14).Â
All of Azerothâs lands, waters, and even the elements themselves came forth at this moment. They were suffused with enough of the Earth Motherâs essence so soon after their inception that they kept the Old Godsâ powers at bay (14).Â
The Earth Mother gave birth to twins: first Anâshe, a beacon of life and warmth, then came Muâsha, who was to bring rest, tranquility, and healing. The elements called them the âsunâ and the âmoonâ (15).Â
Eventually, both Anâshe and Muâsha developed connections with the elements. Anâshe found himself able to wield the light and warmth of fire while Muâsha maintained some control over the tides and winds (15-16).Â
The twins even went so far as to use the elements to create weapons to spar with. Muâsha opted for a bow and arrow, whereas Anâsheâs weapon of choice was a set of blades (16).
To keep her children safe from the Old Godsâ ever-present influence while she slept, the Earth Mother took both Anâshe and Muâsha up into her eyes. Their power was so great that she had to keep one eye open at all times (16).
This, however, meant that Azeroth no longer received Anâsheâs warmth or Muâshaâs guidance of the wind while the Earth Mother rested. Cold slowly spread across the land and blizzards raged until she finally woke again (18).
The Earth Motherâs cycle between periods of sleep and awakening would come to form the basis of the seasons as we know them, with her time of work the summer and her time of rest the winter (18).
As the twins grew in power, they developed the ability to bring on the change of seasons at will, though they took care to do it slowly and give the world time to adjust. As the Earth Mother rested, Anâshe and Muâsha continued to tend to Azeroth from behind her eyes (19).Â
After waking at one point, the Earth Mother found that there was new life walking the earth. Plucking wheat from the plains to sprinkle over them, the Earth Mother called them âShuâhalo,â - the tauren (19).
Just as the Earth Mother taught her children, both Anâshe and Muâsha taught the Shuâhalo in the ways of the elements and caring for the land (20).Â
When the Earth Mother next slept, however, the Old Gods extended their influence to the tauren, causing them to grow violent and turn on their own kind (20).
Saddened to see the tauren fall to such corruption, the Earth Mother shed a single tear. She realized that the land was no longer able to hold the Old Godsâ power at bay, meaning anything it touched could be corrupted (21).Â
Knowing that she was not safe for her children anymore because of her own connection to the land, the Earth Mother removed Anâshe and Muâsha from her eyes and laid down in despair (21-22).Â
The single tear that the Earth Mother had shed became a blue baby, later named âLoâsho,â or the Blue Child (22, 24).Â
Seeking to put an end to the Old Gods after what they had done to the tauren and the despair they instilled in their mother, Anâshe and Muâsha fought against some of the eldritch beingsâ manifestations. During the battle, Anâshe was wounded grievously. Though Muâsha sought to heal him with wind and water, he continued to bleed (24).
The Earth Mother, stirred by her distant childrenâs dismay, eventually found her way to them. She urged them to take Loâsho and go to the heavens so they could protect Azeroth from above, while the Earth Mother chose to root herself in the earth and prevent the Old Gods from ever claiming her children (26-27).
Muâsha, the moon, continues to follow Anâshe closely across the sky so she can keep tending to his wounds (26).Â
Goblin Lore (In conjunction with Riz Gukgak)
This is just an info dump, may be hard to read my apologies. This was spurred on by me re-watching fantasy high, and getting goblin brain rot! Have fun!!
cave cavern systems
thats where they live
generally they live in 'nests'
think of these like a state
then within that large cavern system, there's smaller familial groups/tribes
think 40 to 50 people per group, and like 10 to 15 groups per nest
ok so the nation that goblins live in, is really just a large mountain range
it's the mountains of chaos, honestly just a mostly old stereotypical term
goblins themselves call the mountain range "the mountains"
But within the last 3 or so generations they call it the mountains of chaos like other countries
there's about 34 major nests within that mountain range, and roughly 60 minor ones
minor nests just have 5 to 10 groups rather than 10 to 15
minor nests hold 450, while major nests hold 675
meaning the nation in total has a very small population, only about 50,000 goblins total
they also have different anatomy than humans (obv)
they are much smaller, and take more after elves and cats than humans
they have lion like tales, huge yellow eyes with slit pupils, big ears that look similar to an expanded elven ear, they also have fangs and claws
similarly to cats, the claw isn't just 'fingernail' it's actually built into the joint of their fingers
their blood is blue, so bruises/blush/scars are a dark turquoise color rather than the pink we commonly associate with those things
goblins are often portrayed with long straight hair, this is only accurate when they are in their home (warm, dry, volcanic caverns) when they exit, the humidity actually makes their hair puff up and curl wildly
they have a full written language, however verbally mostly communicate through screeches, hisses, and clicks
they're ears and the positioning of them can tell a lot about their emotions, mostly they move involuntarily but with a lot of work goblins can keep their ears stationary/have control over them
their fangs are similar to rodents in that they will continue growing, and rough things to chew on is the only thing that curbs it
mostly bones and gems/crystals
within their home territory goblins maintain a system based entirely on trading and favors, so they have no frame of reference for currency the way other nations do
goblins also don't have names in the traditional sense,
They have a first name, often either chosen themself or earned through actions.
each nest has a name, and each group within the nest has a name
most goblins when meeting others introduce themself by where their from
so like (first name) (nest name only used if your outside your home nest) (group name)
the way that each goblin communicates and goes about life is highly unique based on what nest and group you grew up in
they also are hyper flexible, given that they need to climb through crevices in the caverns they live in
digging into your food with your hands and eating as fast as you can is seen as respectful in goblin coulture
letting someone's hard work come into direct contact with your hands is appreciative, and eating quickly so that others cant get it is like "your food is so good i am not sharing"
sadly goblins are often seen as 'uncivilized' and 'violent' by humans, elves, and most other humanoids
not including dragon born, orcs, satyrs, kobolds, and kenku
as those races/ethnicities have similar customs
if goblins choose to immigrate to other countries, they often just shove together their hive and group name and call it a day
hence long surnames in immigrated goblin populations
almost all goblins have vocal spasms and tics if they're not speaking in their native language, as certain tones of click/purr denote emotion and intent in goblin speech
sorta like tone indicators
many goblins are also hard of hearing or fully deaf, so GHS (Goblin hand speak, later adapted into CHS or common hand speak) is a common known language
many non-goblin or halfling (deafness is also common) people call it thieves cant also due to stereotyping
halfling people actually call themselves hin, as halfling is a demeaning term created by humans
hin and goblins have a long history of collaboration, as goblins are investigative and good at finding things by nature. and hin are renowned for their prowess in crafting and engineering
many items needed by hin are hard to find or hidden in small spaces, and goblins find and return those things to the hin people in exchange for excess gems, knick knacks, and broke inventions
goblins like assembling and dis-assembling things
it's common for goblin youth to roughhouse and play bite/scratch each other while their fangs and claws are coming in
goblins also howl as a form of music/celebrating big things happening/expressing big emotions
goblins are neither nocturnal or diurnal, they can sleep and function at any time and actually work better with several short naps throughout the day
they only need about 4 hours of sleep total per day, so it works best to work 6 ish hours then sleep, then work then sleep and so on
they also eat a LOT for being very small, they burn calories fast. their constantly moving and even when stationary HAVE to move to keep their blood flowing equally and their brains from spiraling
moving constantly helps be hyper aware of their surroundings, which is important when living in a mountain as earthquakes are common
within their home groups and nests they live in both a matriarchal and patriarchal society, it flips every generation
however when decisions are made your vote has more weight the younger you are (voting starts at 14) because the eldest of the group aren't the ones who have to live with the decisions the longest
matriarch/patriarch of the group is just there to do a headcount daily, provide food, resolve conflict, and speak for the group in conventions of the full nest, or in some cases the full nation
despite those duties, the responsible elder spends most of their time in the nursery (for kids 1-6) taking care of the younglings, because the two most unable to work groups stick together in the safest part of the nest/group den
all the elders work in the nursery but the responsible elder is obligated to spend at least 8 hours every day in it, the other may come and go as they please as long as there's at least 3 elders (excluding the responsible elder) in the nursery at all times
all goblins are intersex until age 14, when the patron deity of the goblins comes to them in a dream to ask where theyd like to remain, and how they want their bodies to look/be structured and when they wake up thats how it is
it can also be changed at any point in life by a quick ritual summoning of said deity
The deity isn't even an actual deity, in each nest when the elders of the group die, they become part of spiritual hive mind that sticks with and looks after every goblin from their nest
the concept of gender is very loose in goblin communities, they don't use pronouns, mostly names and nicknames, and all you have to decide for yourself when you get to the age where your allowed to run for group elder is whether you would be a matriarch or patriarch
and those are separated by thinking patterns rather than gender
men can be matriarchs if they show more the thinking patterns associated with the title (and vice versa)
goblins actually develop from crystals, parents who want a child go to the sacred garden (a crystal growing cavern at the center of every nest) and choose a crystal, its then incubated for 5 to 7 months and turns into a bassinet
the parents are then notified and they come to scoop up their child
