One Small Step For 2014 & One Giant Leap For Demonkind
Can one man make a difference? Can one man shape the future? No!
It takes two: Paul Roos and Peter Jackson.
It may be a simple pre-season practice match but it represented so much more. This game represented what a man with a vision and a man with a reputation bigger than Ber-Hur come together and fuse a successful off-field structure with on-field belief.
Over the last two hours I watched a club that has been nothing more than an embarrassment turn into a glimmer of a team with some potential. Yes, I use that dangerous word potential but any Melbourne support would have been salivating at what they saw. I was on the Demonland forum during the game and you could hear the excitement in the supporters as the words were being typed in. Comments such as;
‘I think we actually have a game plan!’
‘We haven’t got a forward line and we still look dangerous!’
When was the last time WE had more than 100 disposals than the other team?’
‘JKH, JKH, JKH’
‘Bernie Vince is rocking’
‘Terlich could be All-Australian this year (stretching that one I think)!’
‘Paul Roos take a bow tonight! JKH what a freak! A completely different side than last year!’
Paul Roos is on a pretty big wicket to coach the Demons and one post on Demonland said it best: ‘To the morons in the box crapping on about how expensive our coach is, let me just say “you get what you pay for.” We paid big to get Roos and tonight showed what a man like him can do with a group that want success but haven’t been anywhere near it.
The recruits of Tyson, Vince, Cross supported the fresh crop of Kennedy-Harris, King, and Georgiou. Finally the fresh blood is flowing on the park for the Dees.
Don’t get me wrong there was some pretty average disposal and as usual we missed targets but there was belief amongst the boys. More importantly there was trust. It was utterly refreshing!
The Melbourne Football Club took a small step for season 2014 tonight but as a club it may be the big leap that we have been longing for so, so, so long.
What do you think Demon supporters? Did you like what you saw tonight? Leave a comment below and/or share this post!
Go Dees!
