Glenfarclas Whisky – The Famous Scots Edition No. 26: Rob Roy MacGregor

Robert Roy MacGregor (1671–1734) was a clan chief and outlaw who is often referred to as the “Scottish Robin Hood.” He was immortalised through his deeds during the Jacobite uprisings and through Sir Walter Scott’s novels. Glenfarclas’ choice of him for the 26th edition of this series fits perfectly with the spirit of the distillery – unconventional, proud, and deeply rooted in tradition.

As is customary for Glenfarclas, this edition also represents classic maturation in Oloroso sherry casks.

The Glenfarclas distillery, renowned for its traditional craftsmanship and outstanding single malt whiskies, has created a special series with the Famous Scots Edition. Each bottling in this series is dedicated to a famous Scottish personality. Edition No. 26 honours Rob Roy MacGregor, one of the most legendary and controversial figures in Scottish history.

Rob Roy MacGregor (1671–1734) was a Scottish folk hero who became known as the “Robin Hood of the Highlands.” He was a clan leader, cattle dealer, and later an outlaw who rebelled against the British Crown. His story is one of courage, cunning, and an unwavering sense of justice—qualities that make him an ideal source of inspiration for a whisky that embodies character and depth.

The whisky is matured in sherry casks, giving it a deep and complex range of flavours.

Aroma and Taste: Nose: Rich notes of dried fruit (raisins, plums), dark chocolate, and subtle spiciness. Palate: Full-bodied and creamy, with flavours of caramel, nuts, spices, and a slight smokiness reminiscent of a campfire in the Highlands. Finish: Long-lasting, with a harmonious balance between sweetness and spice, accompanied by gentle oak notes.

A tribute to traditional craftsmanship

The Trinity Vintage Series from Glenfarclas is a coordinated range that highlights the three key elements that define the typical character of this family-run Speyside distillery: the use of Oloroso sherry casks, the classic dunnage warehouses, and the direct-fired stills.

This whisky comes from the 2014 vintage and was matured entirely in sherry casks. This imparts the warm, dense, and fruity style for which Glenfarclas is particularly well known.
