The door to Bobby’s cellar opened, allowing the outside world for one moment to hear the ruckus going on inside. Laughing and shouting, warm light and the sharp smell of alcohol and sweat – humanity concentrated in its most despicable aspects. Gilver took a deep breath when the door closed behind him, cutting him off from the filth. The cool late-night air – though the chirps of the early birds showed how close to morning they were – a much-needed balm on his senses. But not all the filth had been left behind, as a friendly grumble to his side reminded him of. “Ugh, what a night.”
